Jack Cork
Re: Jack Cork
Why doesn't a journalist ask SD his reason for not playing Cork at the next presser? It's the one question we all want answering.

To be fair Alex James at Lancs Live seems to ask these questions but Dyche often just shuts him down

Cork is not the answer to our prayers. He'd be on the pitch for ten minutes before everyone would remember his shortcomings. Unfortunately the answer to our central midfield woes is not at our club.

No, everyone was rightly singing his praises when he performed very well at Brighton and Spurs recently.
Re: Jack Cork
7 points from3 games with him in the team. It's all gone to **** since he was dropped.

Re: Jack Cork
Utterly unforgivable that we went into that gand with a midfield that showed so little respect to the basics of retaining possession and giving decent service into thr 2 strikers. Cork should have started and so should McNeil.

Re: Jack Cork
Cork should have started on Wednesday but Dyche got lucky, Everton dominated midfield. Today was an obvious one like at Brighton where we had the chance to dominate.
Today, Westwood had a great 20 mins at the end of the first half but that was it. Retention of the ball, playing it on the deck and getting Brownhill up to support the strikers are the three main requirements that were lacking.
Cornet had a shocking miss but that would have got lucky again, the midfield two was our problem, and. also, Lowton back for a game whem it was attacking full backs needed not solidity (unlike Wednesday) because Norwich don’t have Brazil internationals.

I’m finding a good few of Dyche’s decisions more and more baffling. He seems to have lost sight of what made us so effective.

Re: Jack Cork
As someone said on here recently-when someone cannot get in the team the readers think he is suddenly a better player. Take Lowton for example-endless opportunities to cross the ball in today , and I cannot recall a decent one, or any upgrade on Roberts. Westwood is poor at present but we dont become a better team with Cork in the side. The entire 3 CM's are just not up to PL or even top Championship quality

Re: Jack Cork
I doubt you’ll find a more inept central midfield pairing than Westwood and Brownhill at this level. Spend the game needlessly conceding possession.
Re: Jack Cork
Westwood needs binning but I’m not convinced we’d have won today’s game with Cork in the side.
The problems are deeper than that.

Re: Jack Cork
I'm not saying Cork is now a world beater. I just think we were better with him in the side. Brownhill was a different player alongside Cork. He was woeful today.
Re: Jack Cork
Every single fan can see we're a better side with Jack Cork playing.
The only one who can't see it is the manager who prefers Westwood's panicked whacks into the channel over Cork's more composed approached to retaining possession.

A bit of footballing intelligence is exactly what we were missing today. Cork may be knocking on but he has that in spades.

Re: Jack Cork
Cork has the ability to keep possession when under pressure; I don't see that in Brownhill, and Westwood doesn't even consider it an option.
Re: Jack Cork
Exactly, but it seems that Dyche values those hopeful punts higher than he values the team being able to keep hold of the ball and progress up the pitch with composure.
His decision to go with Westwood over Cork epitomises his view of how we should play. Direct punts over controlled, progressive play.

Re: Jack Cork
I think it’s worth bearing in mind that Westwood is our right footed set piece taker, which no doubt plays a part in his selection. I’m not saying I agree with it but for a side that scores 1/3 of its goals from set pieces it is certainly a factor.

Re: Jack Cork
I think it comes down to him seeing the Westwood & Brownhill combination as being more athletic.
They need to be more athletic as we spend almost the entire 90 minutes chasing the ball due to giving it away on a consistent basis, Westwood and Brownhill being two of the worst culprits.

A very impressive display from Jack today. And no surprise, better quality shown from those around him. He makes us a much better team!

Yes but I'm wondering g if he really has the legs fornthe full games coming (we will find out i guess). Dyche isn't stupid - clearly he thought Westy should start (and seeing as he did today the I suspect that's a given) and then wanted Brownhill's energy - we needed that second goal today then we probably take all 3 but yet again we squander 2 points.
Last seaaon we would have won this

When have I ever said Dyche is my hero?
Yes I liked the guy but my hero is David Eyres! Ha.
Obviously Dyche wasn’t picking him: we all know that.

This.
Whatever your views on the Dyche sacking, I think it’s clear his decisions to not play Cork more have had a significant impact on our league position.

2 stupid bookings in 2 games. Decent at blocking the keeper tonight. Can’t do 3 games in a week as we know so time for Stephens - unfortunately

Immediately improved our midfield. Dyche’s decision to drop him for Westwood was criminal after the Spurs/Brighton games.

We’ve been told all season that his legs have gone - a bizarre viewpoint. Is it just when you hit your thirties as a player that if you have a few below standard performances that it means your legs have gone?

Makes such a difference to our team. Gets about the pitch and links it very nicely. That’s now 3 wins out of 6 starts for the Brownhill / Cork partnership this season - our 3 best performances too. Only 1 loss together which was away at Anfield.

Great again last night.
As if by magic Korker is running today in the 1.20 at Sandown and is the favourite. May cap a fine 24 hours for our underused midfield Dynamo. Another fine claret performance may be in the offing.

Yet another magnificent performance from Jack and Josh in the middle of midfield. Cork just broke up the play and made those short simple passes, time and time again.

Jack recycles the ball and keeps us ticking over. That second half was immense there. He flew into a few tackles. Proper gutsy.

I wouldn’t say he (or Brownhill for that matter) were magnificent today. They were well under par but great to see both of them turn it around for us at the end.

Re: Jack Cork
I thought the midfield looked completely overrun until Barnes came on to give the team some grit (I do wish Ashley and one or two others would realise they are not going to get slight shows this year and ignore them, though. Great to see Cork make that run though, perfect timing cool finish… and same for Brownhill; but we need to address our lack of midfield weight.
