**** VAR and Kevin Friend
Vydra gets punched in the head against Norwich and Friend doesn’t give a pen.
‘Handball’ that Barnes couldn’t have done anything about and it’s a pen straightaway from our pal Kevin.
Thought football was meant to balance itself out over the season?

Friend didn't spot the 'offence'.
Blame VAR.
Blame VAR.
Re: **** VAR and Kevin Friend
If it had been against Tottenham would he have given it to us? I doubt it! Referees just love the big clubs. Thy know where their bread is buttered! Another example of everything that’s wrong about the Premier League.

That’s a fine example of premier league bias….they have not not scored yet so give them a penalty….. absolutely disgusted with that decision….everything that’s wrong with this league

That's fu king rubbish from VAR. Friend is always going to overturn ut when they tell him to look at it as he is toast if he doesn't. Noones claiming dof that. It's not a clear error. It's not even affecting the flight of the ball really. Should have checked and gone with on field.
Bloody awful decision

Re: **** VAR and Kevin Friend
This. He gave them no choice. This is probably down to Barnes lack of play time under the new rules.

Disgusting decision - almost as bad as the Pope ‘penalty’ at Leeds and the Ashley Barnes non-goal at Leeds.
I can barely believe that was given.

Re: **** VAR and Kevin Friend
Be zuse he's just been wrestling with the oppo player and flings himself forward to block the ball. He doesn't put his arm out to block - its already there from the tussle.
No common sense o that at all. The ball hardly moves it almost runs up his arm. There's no pass to deflect. There's no advantage. There's no shot at goal (if it stopped a shot I'd say fair enough). Then they play o and actually have a decent chance.
It's utter utter nonsense

Re: **** VAR and Kevin Friend
Classic example of why VAR is ruining football.
Was it a 'clear and obvious mistake' by the ref? No.
In real time, could Barnes do anything about it, keeping in mind the ball was blasted at him from a yard away? No.
If you slow it down, can you see some contact with his arm? Yes. There's your penalty and no-one can argue.

I've seen clearer handballs not given for those reasons

Re: **** VAR and Kevin Friend
You can't really argue with the penalty within the law of the game. Barnes shouldn't have his hand in that position in the box. Harsh but it is what it is.
We'd want one if it was the other way round.

Re: **** VAR and Kevin Friend
Surely all our justified anger should be directed at Stuart Attwell. I don't think that Friend was interested in giving anything.
Yes, Friend is in charge, but it seems to be 100% that referees go with VAR when asked to do so.
There's no way that Attwell could describe that as a clear and obvious error by Friend.

Re: **** VAR and Kevin Friend
To be fair Barnes had just taken a shove in the chest and seemed to be recovering balance. The ball was being flicked up to go over him.
The thing was it didn't seem like any of the fans or players were appealing for it, so why did VAR step in? It wasn't clear or obvious in real time?

Re: **** VAR and Kevin Friend
Feels like the mitigation of why his arm was there and how close the ball was kicked from were completely ignored. It looked like the ref was itching to give it and I echo the sentiments that it would never have been given at the other end.
I'm a tad annoyed about this as our performance was good enough to come away with at least a point.
We've been diddled. I hope it doesn't cost us by the end of the season.

Re: **** VAR and Kevin Friend
Had we not already played the 4 minutes added time ? But even so as has been said Ashley barnes was off balance due to a foul on him, its natural that you use your arms in that way, but why had the whistle not already gone for the foul, and for the end to the first half.

Re: **** VAR and Kevin Friend
Absolutely no arguments from me as tough as it is to accept.
Every football fan knows that if the ball strikes the arm which is away from the body in the penalty box it will be given as a penalty.
The Kevin Friend haters need to get a grip , he could do nothing as the current rules stand.
Should it have been a penalty? Absolutely not and let’s get back to the deliberate handball rule.

Re: **** VAR and Kevin Friend
Barnes looks to me like he's trying to thrust his chest out to block the ball as he sees the Spurs player going to flick it. In thrusting his chest out he quite naturally puts his arms out and the ball doesn't strike his chest but inadvertently brushes his arm. No way a pen bearing in mind the minute distance from which the ball was kicked at him, but more than that, I just want a referee, ANY referee, to be asked to check the pitch side monitor and have the balls to say "nope, I believe I got it right first time", because we all know that being called to the monitor is simply code for, we've decided you're wrong so change your mind whether you agree with us here at Stockley or not!

While we haven't been good enough for long periods and can hold no excuses for that, this season the decisions against us have been disgusting at times.
The Krul one at Norwich probably being the worst decision I've ever seen, if I was making mistakes like that at work I'd be down the road!

I agree with this. I would like to see a ref look at the monitor and back his original decision if it looked correct.
