Lowton red card
Jackson just said the club are appealing it and rightly so imho
Re: Lowton red card
Interesting. Not sure it’ll get us anywhere to be honest.

Not surprisingly we're appealing, though I'm not hopeful it'll be rescinded.

Re: Lowton red card
Glad we're appealing it. Although he probably won't start against Newcastle he's one that you'd want to bring on at some stage for his experience.
Re: Lowton red card
There was a red given earlier in the season at West Ham, can’t remember who they were playing / which player, but it was a very similar tackle which the player received a red for. I remember twitter / the media were up in arms about it and it got rescinded on appeal. Problem we have is 1. Hasn’t been much noise about it online 2. It’s us and they don’t give a flying.

Re: Lowton red card
Does an actual hearing take place where someone from our club attends, if so they should highlight other incidents that only merited a yellow, one of them being Kane on Robertson only receiving a yellow(red all day for me) and it was Tierney that refereed it. (I think).

I think it can be for ‘a frivolous appeal’ but I wouldn’t expect it in this case.Burnley1989 wrote: ↑Fri May 20, 2022 2:07 pmDoes the ban not get extended? I’d imagine Lowton will still be with us next season, having said that I’d appeal it because I love a gamble

Think Tierney got the red card from his pocket in record time. That could be reviewed too. The attitude and approach of many officials is disgusting.

Re: Lowton red card
I just wish they’d play to one set of rules.
Krul stays on after trying to decapitate Matty Vydra, supposedly because he touched the ball(he didn’t), Jiminez v. DL and Matt Lowton are sent off for endangering an opponent. Jiminez was kicked in Mesliers follow through and Matt had played the ball and done his utmost to ground his studs.
Exactly the same with the pen given against Barnes but not given against Digne. For anybody who thinks it didn’t touch his arm have a look at the camera angle looking down the pitch. You can clearly see the blue sleeve get dragged down as the ball brushes past it. Far enough away from his shoulder that the utter ******** about where the arm begins wouldn’t come into question.

I think it will be rescinded, Tierney will then go on hunger strike.

Re: Lowton red card
Does that 'frivolous appeal' rule still apply?
Not saying this falls into that category - I agree with Rowls (above)
I remember we appealed one under Coyle awarded to Joey Gudmundsson against Preston and (rightly) got a 3 game ban extended to 4 as a result

If they don't overturn that one....the whole process is pointless.
Never a red.

It wasn’t even a foul, just a good, strong tackle the likes of what you see every week in grassroots football.

Re: Lowton red card
It wasn't a red, Lowts won the ball by a mile, his foot wasn't overly high, and it was the Everton lad who arrived too late.
Tierney was far too quick to show the red, didn't take any time to consider, or take advantage of the monitor.
There still isn't a cat in hells chance that it will get overturned.

Never a red card and Burnley are right to appeal. The fact that many believe it will be turned down, as I do, tells you all you need to know about the refereeing system used by the premier league.

Re: Lowton red card
When do we get the decision - before or (more likely) after tomorrow’s game ??
For fairness they should review today so that Lowton (if cleared) could play a part tomorrow.
Wont happen though will it ?

Re: Lowton red card
Tierney seemed to be biased throughout the game - every strong (but fair) tackle went Villa’s way, he missed the foul throw leading to their goal, he overruled our claims for a penalty and of course he was extremely quick with his red card. He also reacted badly to our penalty appeals and called Tarks over to have a word with a (rightly) indignant Ashley.
However I do think that he (and VAR) missed Barnes’ early elbowing incident, which on another day could have been a red and which could have changed the game. Perhaps he looked at this again with VAR at halftime and saw Lowton’s red as an opportunity to balance the books.

VAR didn't miss the Barnes incident - they did not see it as dangerous and therefore not a red cardIWOODLOVETT wrote: ↑Sat May 21, 2022 5:36 pmTierney seemed to be biased throughout the game - every strong (but fair) tackle went Villa’s way, he missed the foul throw leading to their goal, he overruled our claims for a penalty and of course he was extremely quick with his red card. You’re right they didn’t miss it but their decision went our way. To me it looked very similar to Andy Carroll’s assault on Ben Mee. and every one of the tv pundits agreed that we had “got away with one”.

I wouldn’t have complained at all, had Barnes been sent off. He was asking for trouble and knowing Barnes’s love for the dark arts of football, I assumed intent on his part.

Re: Lowton red card
I wonder what our grounds of appeal are?
The ref was very close and gave a quick straight red and VAR supported his decision. The appeal panel or person will just look at the black and white rule book for the incident not how the ref performed, nor the games outcome etc nor any related incidents. It's hard to see how we can win the appeal.
I didn't think it warranted a red but it's not my opinion that counts.

If you use your arms to jump, they should go in the opposite direction to where you want to jump. Which is usually up, hence the arms come down at the end. It's basic fundamentals of momentum. Now I doubt Ashley Barnes has a PhD is physics, but I'm fairly certain he knows how to use his arms to jump. And I'm also fairly certain he wasn't trying to jump forwards...ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sat May 21, 2022 6:48 pmClearly didn't look at anyone. Looked nothing other than using his arm for jumping to me.
Re: Lowton red card
?? … No footballer starts a jump for a header with their arms by their side, these happen all the time and I think the fact Ash didn’t look and travelled quite a few yards to follow the flight of the ball saved him.Roosterbooster wrote: ↑Sat May 21, 2022 8:05 pmIf you use your arms to jump, they should go in the opposite direction to where you want to jump. I can't see the point of appealing, the season will be over, we gain nothing.
Re: Lowton red card
What’s wrong is that the panel should have dealt with it yesterday. If the appeal is eventually allowed it proves an injustice has clearly been done that could have affected our premier league status,

No decision?
The fixture timing was decided by Prem. If it had been earlier in the week, there would be a decision. Same should apply, so no game is missed. Otherwise, it is a suspension by default.
I would hope there is an outcome.

Re: Lowton red card
And the Premier League have absolutely no jurisdiction regarding red/yellow cards/appeals etc. That's an FA matter. They are usually dealt with swiftly. Maybe we decided not to appeal.
