Re: Jack Cork
Cork staying would not improve our chances of getting back up at the first chance of asking but would stabilise the team which is all I think we can ask

Re: Jack Cork
I very much doubt we’d have gone down had he played all season.
He has 300 premier league appearances. If that’s not exactly what we need in the Championship to get us back up, I don’t know what is.

Great news and can't see any reason why not.
I was never a fan of Jacks when he was on loan, but has been brilliant for us in his 2nd stint

Re: Jack Cork
I think this is a good move, despite the concerns over his age.
You can’t just overhaul an entire squad and despite the need to reduce the age of the squad, you do need some experienced heads in there.
Also with Stephens most probably going in the summer at the end of his contract and not knowing when/how Westwood will be back from injury, without the triggering of Corks extension would have left us with Brownhill as our only midfielder.

Yes I agree he is what we need in the Championship but there will not be much quality around him which is why I believe he will be useful in stopping the decline. I think he is a very good player

All our quality players will be sold and any new additions to the team will be either low cost or under 23s unless we get some miraculous investment.

Re: Jack Cork
Played for England in the not too distant past and we’ve picked up loads of points when he’s played.
He’s still fit enough to play in our midfield in the prem who are basically runners 70% of the time and technically good enough to play 300 games at the top level.
If you think he’s not good enough at early 30s in the modern era to play in the champ you need to give your head a wobble

Re: Jack Cork
I disagree. Despite what the doom mongers say we will still be able to more than compete for players and Cork surrounded by fresh vibrant and youthful players may see him flourish.
People have decided that all our players are leaving, we won’t bring in anybody decent and we are now in terminal decline.
It’s all a bit pathetic really.
I suspect if anything the Americans are more likely to go all in on going straight back up. If we don’t do that this year or next we may have a problem but for now the doomsday scenarios need putting to bed and we need to see how the summer unfolds.
The constant negativity on here needs to stop.

The summer will unfold alright but not as you think it will
Re: Jack Cork
You either know something that we don’t or you’re making an assumption. None of us know how the summer will unfold - it may prove many a fear to be correct, it may also prove to be the start of a revival.

Re: Jack Cork
The “summer”, as it turns out, is actually 9 weeks or so for us. I’m actually pretty confident we’ll have most of our star players at that point.
I also wonder if the WC may play its part, with more clubs looking to do business in January given there’s not actually much football played before them.

The Championship is dire. Most clubs are operating off tiny budgets comparative to ours (next season). Our nearest competitors for the league will be Norwich and Watford who are decent but we’ll beatable, given how far they finished behind us.
We have some top pros who will boss the Championship.
This year, more than most actually, I’ve felt we’ve looked solid defensively. I read somewhere that we’re well up the table on goals conceded, goal difference, etc. Keep our defence largely together and we’ll barely concede a goal in the Championship because most premier league teams struggled to beat it.
We do need some pace and creativity, but add that (and a decent manager) and we’ll be fine.

Tony Livesey apparently did an interview on BBC North West today where he claimed Pace was well intentioned and has a “plan b”. Goodness knows what that is, or if true, but

Re: Jack Cork
Ok you don't know and I'm making an assumption based on a gut feeling.
I'm fairly confident we both believe Pope will follow Tarks out of the club. I'm also pretty confident that we both are not expecting McNeill to stay if a club puts in a bid.
Cornet and Weghorst leaving after getting their PL opportunity through our club would not be far fetched.
I would be happy to reappraise my viewpoint if the likes of Brownhill and Taylor were still with us but can you give me a good reason they will still be here with a fire sale predicted

Newclaret: Your forgetting, players get affected by relegation too, even Dyche acknowledged it.
We have already left ourselves too much to do....IMO

Our players, even removing those likely to leave, are a class above the Championship and that class will tell.Wokingclaret wrote: ↑Tue May 24, 2022 12:09 amNewclaret: Your forgetting, players get affected by relegation too, even Dyche acknowledged it.

Re: Jack Cork
I think you're right. If we go bust, the Americans lose all their money. If we stabilise the club and settle down to mid-table championship, the americans lose all their money. The only way the Americans get their money back is if we get back to the Premier League, so my guess would be that they go all-in for promotion and write off the investment (and probably the club) if it fails.arise_sir_charge wrote: ↑Mon May 23, 2022 10:53 pmI disagree. So next year there will be a strong squad IMO. The year after, however ...

Re: Jack Cork
I am fairly optimistic about the coming season. The gap between the EPL and Championship has increased since we've been in the former, at least from what I can make out watching highlights, and I fell we will do well.

Re: Jack Cork
Pleased to hear that Jack has signed for another year. Some stability is essential especially in a period of potential changes at managerial and player level. Agree with others here that we would've had greater success last season if he had been available / selected more often. Thinking back 7 years or so we introduced players like Jones, Arfield, Boyd who made outstanding contributions at Championship level. A few more like would help with the rebuild. UTC
