Re: Name the next manager
Biggest signing of the summer a long with Mee if he decides to stay. Hopefully someone who can adapt to any given situation and change things up if needed. Who are we going to get no idea. I'd like to give Rooney a go.

Re: Name the next manager
Nothing wrong with it, and he even says himself there’s a side to him that the players don’t normally see which would suggest that’s not his normal approach. He’s a clever bloke, I’m sure I’ve seen he’s done an MBA, he’s got the contacts, he’s a winner, played at the highest level and was always a leader for City. Would certainly be a more exciting appointment than Wilder.CoolClaret wrote: ↑Tue May 24, 2022 3:19 pmReally hope it’s not Kompany, stinks of more Pace ‘optics’ razzmatazz over pragmatic substance.
Third in a two horse race and the guy is just bizarre.
His team talks are weird - players won’t respond to it, see below for yourself

Farke for me- two promotions and plays an entertaining brand & he’s available
As others posters have said I wouldn’t be adverse to Farke, he’s got a good championship record.

I'd be surprised if its Kompany but I'd be happy with him. Has decent contacts and may help us get a loan or 2 off City.

If Kompany has accepted the job there is no way he’s coming without the promise of serious transfer funds.

Would be an exciting and surprising (considering the relegation) appointment.
Would have absolutely no idea what to expect which is in itself, exciting.

That would be phenomenal if its Kompany. Maybe he knows Stuart Pearce from his Man City days and so a possibility for his coaching staff if he is looking for an English person who he can trust
A name like Kompany would attract exciting new players and he will have links in Belgium. Maybe even Defour as a coach. I know-I am getting carried away, but we all deserve good news

Kompany coming would signal a statement of intent in itself.
Whoever it is it needs sorting soon, so we can start looking at any potential new signings.

Kompany with a back room staff of Pearce, Bellamy and/or Defour - then Heaton for keeper coach...warksclaret wrote: ↑Tue May 24, 2022 4:44 pmThat would be phenomenal if its Kompany. I wouldn't have wanted Kompany had we not been relegated, but now I think he would be ideal
One thing I haven't seen is how long his contract is at Anderlecht, and how easy it would be to get him released, as it all costs money.

Re: Name the next manager
If Kompany joins it shows the financial disaster isn't quite here yet and we can kick that down the road a bit. So that would be a positive, even if it's short term.
No idea if he'll be any good. If it wasn't for his name as a player, I doubt we'd be getting excited about someone who's not managed to get Anderlecht into the top 3 in Belgium since he's been there. And you wonder what he knows about the Championship.

They’ve finished top 3 both seasons to be fair. Previous two seasons they’d finished 8th and 4th. All with a very young squad, playing positive football. I think his contacts would help us attract quite a few, particularly loans from City.

If anything, would hopefully convince some of the existing players to give it an extra season. No doubt would be able to attract an experienced coaching team

Have Anderlect signed any City loans?
I have to say, other than being a big name and the City loan points you make, wouldn’t be my top choice. Not that I actually have a top choice

Maybe he's been given the option to buy into the club. We need the investment, and he can then reap his own rewards. I would suspect he has the money, but would anyone have that much faith in their own abilities.burnleymik wrote: ↑Tue May 24, 2022 4:08 pmI think it will speak volumes if Kompany comes that things financially are nowhere near as bad as is being made out.

" Convincing some of the existing players to give it an extra season " is not what we need to be doing in my opinion. Im not thrilled by Cork and Rodriguez being gIven new contracts...we need a proper clearout and a restart. The entire management team have gone and we have a chance now to start afresh on the management, coaching and playing staff. Too many of our players have become used to losing over the past 2 years..blake's wand wrote: ↑Tue May 24, 2022 5:06 pmIf anything, would hopefully convince some of the existing players to give it an extra season. You would hope we could better these two, but they are very able squad players, and when you look at our bench for 90% of the time the bench was pitiful, at one stage with 3 keepersrandomclaret2 wrote: ↑Tue May 24, 2022 5:24 pm" Convincing some of the existing players to give it an extra season " is not what we need to be doing in my opinion. Re: Name the next manager
I found it intriguing the way Defour spoke in his video message to Burnley last week referring to it as 'WE' all the time. Straight away I thought of the Kompany links and put 2 and 2 together to get carried away and think maybe he's coming as assistant/coach, it'd make a lot of sense and bring a lot of excitement too

I think it has to be a transition - we can't just get rid of the majority of players even if we do need to freshen things up. We would be in real trouble if all of our seasoned pros left. New squad/players would take time to bed in and whilst we definitely need them, it will take us a few seasons.randomclaret2 wrote: ↑Tue May 24, 2022 5:24 pm" Convincing some of the existing players to give it an extra season " is not what we need to be doing in my opinion. Re: Name the next manager
I dont entirely disagree with you, it is a balance that needs to be struck. I'd certainly keep Mee for example, but I'd still fall on the side of " more departures " than " less" .Every player we have is a Sean Dyche signing and for right or wrong , that era is over.blake's wand wrote: ↑Tue May 24, 2022 5:33 pmI think it has to be a transition - we can't just get rid of the majority of players even if we do need to freshen things up. Absolutely not to Nathan Jones. There'll be an expectation here (like at Stoke) to mount a promotion push. He failed miserably.

Re: Name the next manager
Under the old ownership these rumours tend to lead to disappointment. Under the new, they have often panned out, bar last minute twists like Orsic that even Pace couldn’t predict or rejections like Fofana.
If it is Kompany I would regard that as outstanding, because, frankly, we need a lift, and as one of the top CBs of all time he would develop defenders like Collins brilliantly.
Am I right that as a Championship club we can loan 4 players from a single PL club, as long as 2 are under 23? That has obvious potential.
I struggle to see how we can do those things under another manager as easily.

A bit of movement on Skybet just now.
Wilder into 6/1 2nd favourite as Kompany odds drift a little to 4/6. Nathan Jones quickly drifts out again to 16/1.

Re: Name the next manager
The fact is nobody knows who will be a success or not, I remember no one being blown away when we signed Dyche and that worked out fairly well (all in all), Kompany does sound like an exciting and progressive appointment, but will it be like when we signed Waddle, a great player but not a manager, only time will tell, but by the sounds of it, it’ll certainly give the place a lift.

Re: Name the next manager
The difference is Kompany has two full seasons of management under his belt, he arrived at Anderlecht with the club in turmoil and has had a very young squad at his disposal, he will still lack experience but he will have learnt a lot in those two years. He also won't sign Michael Williams and Mark Ford.Robbo1882 wrote: ↑Tue May 24, 2022 6:33 pmThe fact is nobody knows who will be a success or not, I remember no one being blown away when we signed Dyche and that worked out fairly well (all in all), Kompany does sound like an exciting and progressive appointment, but will it be like when we signed Waddle, a great player but not a manager, only time will tell, but by the sounds of it, it’ll certainly give the place a lift.

Not sure what Waddle had beyond a tatty secondhand copy of the FA guide to coaching and training.

There's some truth in that, but it's also true that if we did bounce back, with virtually the same squad, barring those who are set to leave, we would be in an horrendous position back in the Prem. Cannon fodder.blake's wand wrote: ↑Tue May 24, 2022 5:33 pmI think it has to be a transition - we can't just get rid of the majority of players even if we do need to freshen things up. We have to try to go up, with the nucleus of a team that can hold its own. Today's squad couldn't, and they wouldn't have a cat in hells chance in another years time.

Re: Name the next manager
Kompany has a less than fifty percent win rate as a manager so far - not bad but not great and not the sort of rate required for promotion from the championship, unless via the play offs.
Lots of factors excluded from such a high level view, of course.
I’ve read on here that he’s faced various challenges and has actually done a good job in steadying the shop. My view of Anderlecht is perhaps rather a historic one, expecting them to be challenging for the title in Belgium, so perhaps I’m being a little harsh in being less than convinced by him as an option.
I think it’s a bit of a gamble (I suppose most appointments are) but I can see a few positives.
