He probably does and it must be bad news with him being so quiet. He was implying earlier today that there would be a positive announcement between 3.30 pm and 6.30 pm today.

Re: Name the next manager
The amount of unheard of managers who arrive in this country throughout all of our divisions from all over the planet, with seemingly no issue.
Due to Brexit we should just appoint Neil Warnock.

Re: Name the next manager
Shouldn’t be any work permit problems, managers meed a Governing Body Endorsement and as far as I can see the only issue is that he needs 24 consecutive months in his last role and some of that was as player coach - obviously that would be moving into farce, even by our FA and Home Office standards.
Ironically those rules could make it undesirable for VK to work elsewhere for a bit if it then makes it harder to move back to the UK if he loses his job inside 24 months. It is right for the UK to have migration rules of course, but stupid if it prevents one of the best defenders ever from coming to work here, one who has an English family. We got a vote for the right to set our own rules, we don’t get a vote on what those rules turn out to be sadly.

One of the best defenders, ever? He was good but I’m not convinced he would make the top five (maybe even top ten) defenders to have played in the Premier League, let alone the English top division or looking outside of England.CrosspoolClarets wrote: ↑Mon May 30, 2022 11:36 pmShouldn’t be any work permit problems, managers meed a Governing Body Endorsement and as far as I can see the only issue is that he needs 24 consecutive months in his last role and some of that was as player coach - obviously that would be moving into farce, even by our FA and Home Office standards.

Whether or not he was one of the best defenders ever, shouldn’t be a consideration for him to be granted a work permit for a different role.

As long as he has his qualifications and earns over 30k a year, he should be fine.
Will already have a NI no.
It might take a long time like for the Ukrainians or cricketers coming over, but it won't be a problem.

This article is when Conte joined Spurs and also had to get a work permit. It suggests the process can take up to 48 hours. He was announced as manager before the work permit was received though. Which makes me wonder, if Kompany has agreed the deal and it’s done, why we don’t announce it. As the work permit won’t be a problem. So that leaves me thinking the deal isn’t fully done, but then again, why would we be looking to secure a work permit if it’s not done. Aaahh.

The home office work permit department is massively back logged at present. This has had a significant impact on club cricket in the UK.

When he news of this first broke a week ago, for some reason all the news articles were suggesting it would be announced this week.
So perhaps there is no delay.

Re: Name the next manager
Hopefully it's just a bit of bureaucratic pedantry.
I will say I'd heard that "the new manager" (no name given but implied Kompany) was signing on the day last Wednesday. So could just be a matter of waiting for forms to process.
Will say as a Remainer who now believes in making the best of it, I won't take any schadenfreude or irony from this if it falls through- people are allowed to vote what they like even if I don't think it's a good idea, and I'm not going to take any satisfaction sneering because bad consequences come of it. Burnley being a predominantly Leave town has no bearing on basically anything for me.
One for the real anoraks- whatever happened with Gatiss Kalnins and Aleksandr Solovjovs? I seem to remember at least Kalnins randomly making a team photo, and Solovjovs being on trial for a couple of preseason games, but did either get beyond that?

Reminds me more of Artim Sakiri- wasn't he signed but then the work permit fell through?

Wasn't the rumour with Sakiri, that we just turned up to the hearing, having done no prep work and with no specialist representation, thinking it was a formality?spt_claret wrote: ↑Tue May 31, 2022 9:04 amHopefully it's just a bit of bureaucratic pedantry.

He wouldn't have applied for settled status as he wasn't here when he had to. He could apply for a family visa, no idea how long that takes. But, it's the will of the people.gandhisflipflop wrote: ↑Mon May 30, 2022 9:46 pmHe has worked in England prior to brexit, he has lived in England enough years to gain a British passport. Re: Name the next manager
I'd put him top 5 of the PL era with Vidic, Ferdinand, Terry and Van Dijk, narrowly ahead of Stam.
At his peak from 2011-14 he was arguably the best CB in the league, and one of the best in the world albeit during a lull in top quality centre backs, if he hadn't been so injury prone he'd probably be higher regarded.
