How many incomings this summer
I'll opt for 7/8 newbies arriving, though some if not all will likely involve loans in some form, perhaps loans with an option to buy could be a good way for us to utilise the market.
Now the retained list has finally been revealed we've got more of an idea what we'll require, although it's almost certain other big names will depart.
For me priority positions are
CB (Harewood-Bellis on loan maybe)
LB (Taylor should be comfortable at this level, so unless we can pick up someone on a free, this isn't an area I'd be spending big on this window.
CM X2 (Cullen) and one other, Westwood won't be available for a good few months, Cork hasn't yet committed to resigning, so we will need strengthening in the engine room.
RW (JBG simply can't be relied on to stay fit for a lengthy spell, and we badly need someone who can create something from wide areas.
Strikers X2 (Cornet & Weghorst won't be here come September, and I'm not convinced Barnes or Jay Rod have the legs for a full 46 game slog in the Champ, young pacy striker in the Andre Gray mould would be top of my shopping list.
Now whether we'll have the funds to manage all that I have my doubts, and we may have to look at promoting some of our own youngsters, if Kompany deems them capable of making the step up.

Guessing Kompany on Transfer deadline day meaning he has no time to bring anybody in

Between 8-10 I’d say.
I think we will loan a minimum of 4 , with at least 2 from city
Harwood-Bellis being one of them, I’d like Delap and McAtee too.
Massive job on

Bedeau, Costelloe (if he signs), Thomas, Helm all have a good chance

Not sure but whoever we get in loan has to have the right attitude and temperament. Whilst also improving us. Can't get bodies in just for the sake of it.

Nothing like making it sound worse that it actually is. 21 players left including 1st team, U23 & U18 how many 1st team regulars have left....2?claret2018 wrote: ↑Sat Jun 11, 2022 12:20 pmWell 21 players have just left, and the squad was threadbare before then.

Re: How many incomings this summer
A really decent CM and creative wide player, plus 2 decent strikers for this level are priorities. Could be the difference between finishing mid table or in the top 6.
Of course if Vydra gets fit and signs then we need one pacy striker to stretch teams

Re: How many incomings this summer
We probably release the same amount of U23 players each year and promote from younger levels and bring a few in, then the new scholars get taken on.claret2018 wrote: ↑Sat Jun 11, 2022 12:47 pmI think we need serious incomings at all levels. Whether we will see it is another matter.
1st team needs improvements but it has for years we've all known that, best time to do it now with a new manager in place

Re: How many incomings this summer
Two centre halves, left back, two centre midfields, right and left winger, two strikers at least and that’s before you factor in the likely departures of Pope, Cornet and Weghorst over the next few weeks.
Re: How many incomings this summer
With this lot running the circus, **** knows.
Re: How many incomings this summer
So a squad of 32, 34 if Vydra & Cork resign?Steve-Harpers-perm wrote: ↑Sat Jun 11, 2022 2:08 pmTwo centre halves, left back, two centre midfields, right and left winger, two strikers at least and that’s before you factor in the likely departures of Pope, Cornet and Weghorst over the next few weeks.
Re: How many incomings this summer
Hennessey BPF Norris
Roberts/Lowton
Taylor/New
Collins/Long/Thomas/New
JBG/McNeil/New/New
Westwood/Cork/Brownhill/New/New
Jay/Barnes/Vydra/New/New
Would be good if some young uns are able to fill the new slots.

Re: How many incomings this summer
Signings will be dependent on who we sell for actual cash. No sales equals no purchases is my forecast. Loans and free transfers are the most likely. Hope I am 100% wrong
Re: How many incomings this summer
I would say we need a minimum of 6 signings.
1 centre half
Cover for Taylor
Two wingers, left and right, who are not injury prone and can beat their man.
Centre midfield, with an engine. Box to box player.
Striker, someone pacy which can stretch teams.
Hopefully there may be one or two from the youngsters, under 23's that can make it. Hopefully we are lucky with free transfers and loans. I remember the 1st full season under Dyche, did Jones, Heaton and Arfield sign as free transfers?

Re: How many incomings this summer
A few players out of contract that I’ve noticed whilst having a gander : -
Two that I’d like us to go for are -
Jed Wallace Winger/wide midfielder
Lee Buchanan Left back
Others that May or may not be within our reach -
Daniel Amartey - Leicester centre half/ defensive midfielder
Jack Stephens - Southampton centre half
Others of note -
Dion Sanderson - centre half who’s had a few championship loans now, quite pacey.
Ryan Nyambe - right back, only if we plan to replace Lowton this window which I can’t see, and it would annoy our neighbours .
Richedly Bazoer - centre half/ defensive midfielder at Utrecht who I remember was rated quite highly in his days at Ajax, not sure what’s happened to him but given that we are branching out a bit more, then maybe a gamble worth taking

Re: How many incomings this summer
I can see 9 being needed- if not 10.
1 x gk
2 x centre halves
1 x left back
2 x centre midfield
2 x wingers (L+R)
2 x strikers
I can see either Norris or BPF leaving and Pope is almost a certainty to go.
Collins may go if a good enough offer comes in and there’s no way that we can do a promotion push with either Long and Thomas as first choices on a consistent basis.
With Pieters gone we have to get another left back urgently.
Westwood is on the shelf for several months, Cork may still leave, we HAVE to get at least two centre midfielders in- one of them needs to be experienced and “do a Barton” (i.e. inspire us to promotion).
JBG is injury prone, McNeill may go, Cornet definitely will. This means that 2 wide players are essential.
Barnes is a squad player best used from the bench, Jay Rod has never been a 20 goal a season striker, Vydra is going to be out for quite a while and Weghorst doesn’t intend to stay. We can develop Richardson but we need some serious strength and lethality up front.
There’s plenty of players available for free (deliberate choice for a lot of players these days!) who would be great signings, Kompany’s name will open doors to us that would otherwise be closed in terms of loans etc, the foreign market is now an option that we will likely use better.
Don’t get me wrong; there’s a lot to be done but it will be done- Kompany will not come here and want to fail so he’s got to have had assurances, Pace will not want to fail as he won’t be able to recover, or make a profit on, his investment.
I know it’s hard to do bearing in mind the lack of communication recently but we have to have faith…

To begin with , enough to prevent Long and Barnes being first choice players.
Then a couple to give the midfield a good shake up !

There is no way Kompany is coming to us to add just a couple and try and patch together a squad with what he’s been left with.

2 centre mids , 3 if cork leaves.
2 centre halves
2 wingers if none leave , add to that if any do as JBG can’t be relied on.
2 strikers
If pope leaves then maybe a keeper unless Hennessy is deemed number 1

I’m baffled as to who the under 23’s who are going to suddenly walk into our first team. First season relegated offers the best chance to go back up as Norwich, Fulham and Bournemouth etc prove. We are not gonna sign 8-10 players that would cost a fortune even at championship level

I would be very surprised if we bring in the amount of players some have suggested. I think six players absolute max and I'd be a little surprised at that. Think it'll be around four.

It goes against Alk transfer tactics. It’s dead money when using the loan market.
Especially if we are going to be paying too dollar for City youngsters.

True! but I'll be amazed if Cornet, Pope and Weghorst don't leave to name just 3, and it's worth noting we really struggled in the closing weeks of the season.eastcoastclaret wrote: ↑Sat Jun 11, 2022 8:29 pmIf Cork resigns, and nobody else leaves we are a CB short of the team that finished the season.
Plus our bench lacked quality towards the end of the season, yes we need 3/4 1st team ready players, but we also need some strength in depth over a long Championship campaign.

It’s a long old season in the champ

Obviously we don't know if Kompany fancies them but Jed Wallace and Connor Hourihane would improve us without, you'd imagine, being particularly expensive.

It’s not dead money if you are viewing it as a chance to buy. How many of these City youngsters as good as they might be are realistically going to ever to be regulars in their first team with the money they have?Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sat Jun 11, 2022 8:43 pmI would be really surprised if we got more than one or two on loan.

Potentially, I would say the players that we would be ideally loaning from them would fancy themselves going on to bigger clubs.Steve-Harpers-perm wrote: ↑Sat Jun 11, 2022 8:57 pmIt’s not dead money if you are viewing it as a chance to buy. I’m just not sure our owners will want to plow 15m into 4-5 Loan signings when’s there’s little return (unless promoted).

Tarks
Mee
Pieters
Stephens
Lennon
All of which need replacing so that’s 5.
Bardsley not so much
Weghorst is off - thats 6
If Cork leaves thats 7
Likewise McNeil and Cornet so you could go 9 there
JBG cannot be relied on so you could even say 10/11 .
If we don’t have a real busy summer we could be left unbelievably short in a long , tough season.
Maybe we will see one or two make the bench from the u23s but this season is crucial. So I see us making loan signings and probably 3/4 minimum.
Add to that Westwood and Vydras long term absences we need a huge overhaul

In my original post I said we would bring 5 in if nobody else left, plus try to bring 3/4 U23s through. I think the team that finished the season plus Tarks replacement and 4 other 1st team ready players isn't that far off. Especially if we can bring a few U23s through. We would have Westwood and possibly Vydra to return as well.tiger76 wrote: ↑Sat Jun 11, 2022 8:50 pmTrue! but I'll be amazed if Cornet, Pope and Weghorst don't leave to name just 3, and it's worth noting we really struggled in the closing weeks of the season.
Plus our bench lacked quality towards the end of the season, yes we need 3/4 1st team ready players, but we also need some strength in depth over a long Championship campaign.

Re: How many incomings this summer
Bedeau had a really good season in league 1 as a progressive LCB (could replace Mee).Hedontplayforyou wrote: ↑Sat Jun 11, 2022 9:18 pmAre any of them good enough?
Helm
Costelloe
Richardson (I had high hopes for him)
Thompson
Dodgson
I’m not sure
Phillips had 14 goal contributions from midfield in league one this season.
Costelloe (if he signs, was our top scorer for u23s and made the bench in the prem) he’s one I think could breakthrough.
Dodgson another that the club rates highly. Personally I’m not sure if he could step up but the club obviously rate him.
Helm looked really good last season, I think he’s another that could be given a chance by Kompany.
Not sure on Thompson think he had a relatively poor season last year.
I think it’s interesting Tucker was given another contract. Every time I’ve seen him for u23s I thought he was the best player on the pitch. In my personal opinion he’s one to watch this season.
Of the listed names above I think Costelloe, Tucker, Phillips, Bedeau and Helm stand a good chance of being part of the first team squad.

I suspect the way football is going at our club it will turn out to be something completely different until we start to have a reputation again of bringing players into the first team through the ranks. It’s been a long time

Long I'd keep another year as 4th choice to save money. Bedeau I've never seen play but Phillips for me has to go he's nearly 25Steve-Harpers-perm wrote: ↑Sat Jun 11, 2022 7:10 pmHopefully we’ll be shipping a few more out looking at the list of players left. . The likes of Kevin Long, Adam Philips and Jacob Bedeau I don’t think are going to be part of Kompany’s plans.
