Is Brownhill a world beater or absolute pants?
Instead of filling up the transfer page, let's have all reasoned debate on here on Brownhill
Personally don't think he is too bad a player, although if a bid of 15 million plus was to come in I would snap who evers hands off. He may be a good championship player but no better than a lot of others who can be picked up for a few million
If he stays also great, he busts a gut and do believe he would be a success for us.

Neither
But I'm glad he plays for us. Hopefully this season will see a few fools eating humble pie.

If we get offered £20m then we should sell, but I think he’ll be a really good player next season for us.

Re: Is Brownhill a world beater or absolute pants?
Certainly not a world beater, but then none of our players are, that's why they play for us in the first place.
However he's certainly good enough to impress for us in the Championship if he stays.
That said if we are offered £15-20m as reported we might well cash in, and look to find replacements, who will fit Kompany's system and passing style much better than Josh may.
He must be showing something for all these clubs to be expressing an interest in him, despite what some posters think about him on here.

Re: Is Brownhill a world beater or absolute pants?
As usual, the answer is somewhere in the middle.
World beater? Of course not. Capable of doing a decent job for us next season, particular with us now in the Championship? I'm pretty confident that's a yes

Re: Is Brownhill a world beater or absolute pants?
Showed towards the end of the season he can play well against the best clubs the PL has to offer. He wasn’t helped by having poor quality around him.
As long as he stays away from free kicks …….
Must put more power and precision into his shooting, but even that improved towards the end of the season.
In a my opinion a must have in our Championship team and I hope the new management team see it that way .

I find it odd that (over several threads, not just this one) people have claimed he is an average player, but would sell for £10-15m+
£10m according to some would buy most of the best talent in Europe!

Re: Is Brownhill a world beater or absolute pants?
People kept telling me about this statistic of how many times Brownhill intercepted the ball last season, this figure will be high as we never had a lot of the ball. He does cover a lot of ground, but struggles with keeping the possession.
Jackson and Mee's first decision as managers was to drop him at West Ham, had Westwood not got that horrible injury, I think that we'd have seen very little of Browny for the season's run in.

Re: Is Brownhill a world beater or absolute pants?
Not me, I said he'll be ok in the Championship. My judgement was based on his 2 years at PL level, he wasn't good enough and the steely shape of the side disappeared when he came into the midfield. He's a nice lad, he works his arse off, has some qualities, just isn't good enough on the ball for me. I also gave him 2 years before making a judgement, prior to the Newcastle game I was never on Brownhill's back like other posters (well 1 poster) who was on his back from the very moment he signed.Colburn_Claret wrote: ↑Thu Jun 30, 2022 7:15 pmNeither

His passing hasn't been great to be honest but he has attributes we will need in the Championship.

Re: Is Brownhill a world beater or absolute pants?
Great attitude, fit young bloke and gets about the pitch really well but for me he’s a top end championship player thats not quite got the extra bit of class required of a premier league starting calibre midfielder.
Panicked in possession and lacks vision - although wasn’t helped in playing in a two chasing shadows most of the game.
Will be very important for us this season.

I meant I waited until the end of the season before making my judgement, was undecided on him. I haven't been critical since day 1 like Newcastle, I gave him a fair shot to prove his PL worth, I just don't see it. I agree he'll be fine at Championship level.

Always thought he'd be better played further up the pitch not nailed at the back.
Daft to sell him

Re: Is Brownhill a world beater or absolute pants?
Every team needs some players with passion. He has passion.
Plus you don’t get to be a Premier League player without talent. He was a Premier League player.
I really hope he does well next season. We can all debate talent till the cows come home. And we all have different opinions.
Opinions are like arseholes. We all have one.
Hope he does well. For Burnley.

He’s a relatively young player. I think he tries really hard a and has been very effective in some matches. He will improve. But I don’t understand the need for supporters like the OP to be critical. He has huge potential and I hope he stays at Burnley.

Re: Is Brownhill a world beater or absolute pants?
He’s not a world beater by any stretch of the imagination. At best a middle to lower premiership player. If as reported some of the top half premiership teams are enquiring about him, then he must have something.
Brownhill gives 100% for Burnley covers a lot of ground and makes some crucial interceptions & a lot of occasions was played out of position, but he never dropped his shoulders, he just got on with the task given to him, and that should be good enough for us supporters. But unfortunately it’s not & for some reason people have a pop at him.

Re: Is Brownhill a world beater or absolute pants?
A very underrated talent. If he played elsewhere our fans would be clamouring for us to sign him.
With our pacy Congolese attackers he will shine next season, even chipping in with more goals.
Even prior to his injury time was catching up with Westy as his game dropped off.

Re: Is Brownhill a world beater or absolute pants?
I'd be very surprised if he isn't playing in the Premier League next season.
Amazed there is even discussion about whether he 'could do a job' for whatever sort of Burnley side plays in the Championship next season. It's laughable - he is a proven, consistent performer at PL level in a role which most teams need in their midfield.
With Tarkowski, Mee and Pope gone - he's probably the best player (certainly most sellable asset) left at the club.

Re: Is Brownhill a world beater or absolute pants?
How many world beaters do we or did we have ? Arguably Pope and Tarkowski - both were immense for us yet also capable of mistakes. Cornet looked outstanding at times yet missed some sitters. Collins looks to have bags of potential and has age on his side but again made mistakes. Weghorst looked good at times but again the end product left a lot to be desired. Brownhill is an average player who gives his best at all times - nothing more, nothing less.

Re: Is Brownhill a world beater or absolute pants?
Let’s not exaggerate. Brownhill has his strengths, he’s a top athlete that covers the ground and breaks up play. However his passing and the creative side of his game is miles of premier league standard.
He will do a decent job in the championship. This is his level probably a mid to high end championship team.
Re: Is Brownhill a world beater or absolute pants?
Not a world beater by any means, but certainly not pants
He is the best of our current crop of central midfielders
Which is why he may be linked to other clubs but the rest of our guys are not

Re: Is Brownhill a world beater or absolute pants?
Lets look at the Whoscored stats for last season (central midfielders, minimum 15 appearances, out of 38 players)
18th for average rating
12th for tackles per game
13th for least times dribbled past
1st for interceptions per game
7th for shots blocked per game
14th for key passes per game
19th for unsuccessful touches per game
25th for times dispossessed per game
So statistically he's a decent premier league midfielder.

Re: Is Brownhill a world beater or absolute pants?
World beater playing with Cork, absolute pants playing with Westwood... I think he's largely struggled tbh, but hasn't been helped by the restraints of the SD system. I suspect he'd be good in a midfield three as a shuttler, using his energy to hassle opponents. Like McNeil, I'd expect him to stand out in the Championship even after a difficult season.
He has some qualities - a great engine, good pace, doesn't hide - but his shooting lacks conviction and his passing lacks precision. If there was a big offer I'd be alright with us taking it to reinvest.

Re: Is Brownhill a world beater or absolute pants?
He’s neither a world beater nor is he pants.
He’s a good footballer but I think he lacks the technical ability and passing range to play for a top half Premierleague team. Although I think he could be a stand out player in the Championship and a very important player for us.
Can’t fault his desire, workrate, and fight for the team. He’s one of the first names on the team sheet for me he reminds me of Jordan Henderson, athletic, strong in the tackle but could be braver with his passes.
It would be a big loss to lose him but who would deny him or mind if he took an opportunity to play back at the highest level ?
What will be will be.
