I know what you’re saying but being interested and actually going ahead and making an offer are light years apart. I mean, I’m sure Burnley would be interested in Ronaldo, but is that realistic? I would suggest that of those clubs who may be interested there may only be 1 or 2 who might take it further.
Potentially but I honestly think once the dominoes start falling (like Raphina to Chelsea and Richarlison to Chelsea) that they will bid for cornet.
It’s just a matter of time in my eyes they just need to move on other players.

where did Brentford source a lot of their players when they were at that level, and where did they sign Gray from?
I didn’t realise that Brentford had already achieved the premier league riches and parachute payments to strengthen their team, having shifted on many of the top earners. And I also missed their instant promotion having signed those players.

Shocked by that. Thought we had enough solid stuff going on without him resorting to fabricating stuff.

Cornet scored nine goals in the premier league in a side that got relegated, including some absolute stunners
I'm amazed he's still here to be honest

I don’t think there’s much wrong with saying Cornet will be gone. I’d be incredibly surprised if he’s still with us in a months time.

Not convinced. He’s a difficult players to peg. I get the old **** take of “He can score goals, but else can he do?” is at risk of being aired here, but I don’t think he’s an easy player to find a position for and I’m not sure he’ll ever score that many goals again at the top level. I think a lot of sides would be wary about where he’d fit in for them. We spent the whole of last season trying to make him fit somewhere.
The quandary is possibly demonstrated by his starting as a winger, moving to left back and then our attempts to convert him into a striker.

Most teams play with wingers in an advanced position supporting a lone striker. That’s his best position, same as where he was most effective for Lyon. We never played this formation or system.

Possibly. He’s definitely an odd one. Not rapid, not likely to beat a player, tidy on the ball without being creative…but, capable of some absolute worldies from time to time. It’s possibly telling that Lyon ended up playing him as a full back/wing back.

I personally think that’s a tad unfair. I thought he offered a lot more than just goals, more so when he started wide. He has very good off the ball movement and the timing / angling of his runs in the channel is excellent. His back to goal link up play is pretty poor though and hence it baffled me when we kept persisting with him playing that role.
Yes he scored some ‘worldies’ but also more than a few goals from good penalty box movement (home to Everton, home to Newcastle, first at Southampton).
His goal contribution per minutes played was 1 in 2 last season, that’s more than solid for a relegated team with one of the poorest attacks in the league.

I think the problems re where to play him were exacerbated by SD who didn’t seem to know what to do with him. Though I agree I don’t think they’ll be as long a list of suitors as some people seem to think. £17m is still £17m and there were evident flaws to his game. I can see a Fulham or similar being interested but it’s not a given. No way somebody with the aspirations of Newcastle will be bothering.

His overall game wasn’t the most refined, but he was always a threat. His movement was exceptional and with a better level of creativity around him he would have scored far more (9 in 26 in a very poor side in his maiden season in a new country - and playing up front, which he hadn’t done before I don’t think - is very impressive).
I doubt there’s any prospect of him staying but if he somehow ended up not getting nicked, I’d fancy him for 20-25 in a full 46 game season at this level. Problem is, he did seem a bit soft at times and seemed to always go down with small injuries and come off early. I am not sure he is someone we could rely on in a gruelling Saturday-Tuesday-Saturday etc season over 46 games.

And let’s have it right, he’d be unreal in the Championship. I’ve seen a few ‘he wouldn’t be up for it’ type comments not really based on anything tangible. Would love to keep him because of his obvious attributes for us and his personality in general.

Unless we’re willing to sell Cornet for well below the reported £17.5m release clause, we’re asking teams to fork out a fair sum for a player who is half way through his career and hasn’t yet found a settled role/position.
If he stays, he could be brilliant, but I suspect Kompany will need to be sure he can fit into whatever system we employ. When you have the season we had last year, it’s acceptable to keep moving players around trying to find that winning formula. Promotion contenders tend to have settled sides though.

I really don’t understand why any poster thinks 17.5m is too high of a sum?
There were only 9 other players in the premier league last season that had a better goals per minutes rate than Cornet.
For the record of the other 9 players only Wilfred Zaha played in a team in the bottom half (they finished 12th).
Cornet is a 25 year old full international with champions league experience. 17.5m is good value for any premier league team.

True - Forest just spent 17.5m on a striker who’s had 1 decent season in the Bundesliga.

Agreed. £17.5m for Cornet is cheap. Which is why there's next to zero chance he'll be here by the end of the window.

Yep 17.5m for a guy that is proven in the premier league is a snip. If they can keep him fit I think he scores 15 in an attacking team

Well the proof will be in the pudding. If that’s such a snip of a fee, they’ll be clubs lined up for him yet there’s been radio silence so far.
Not to say I think he’ll be here, but I think his stock is being elevated a bit. And I like him!

I believe Cornet reports back on Monday. I think if VK can sit down with him and tell him he is vital to our plans, he might get him to stay until at least the January window. I think this applies to Collins too, who gets back Monday too. I think Cornet under VK could be sensational in the Championship. With Collins, could he get a better tutor than VK at this stage of his developments. I think neither would join any of the three promoted clubs. In Cornet's case I cannot see him starting regularly in any of the other 17 PL clubs-more of an impact sub. As for Collins he might have to work hard to establish himself in the PL. Lets face it if Mee was fit he would never start with us, and no one appears to be rushing to sign Ben

It's hard to fathom the line of thought that Cornet is so good he'll be an incredible player for us next season but not good enough for any Premier League team to want for a little more than we paid for him.

The problem is Cornet needs to be interested also, plus everyone knows the fee of 17.5 million yet not one single rumour never mind a bid

The issue with Cornet is his fitness but Premier sides who like to pack their squad with players will happily stick him on the bench. He obviously has a top six career plan and it may come down to what suits that plan. Sign for a (say) Everton and they aren’t guaranteed to let him go for a few years, sign for a Brentford or Forest and its another relegation scrap. So I see it as highly unlikely he stays until January but it is possible (and its also possible his clause doesn’t apply in January).
There is a chance he is inspired by Kompany’s vision and fancies playing on the PL under him, but it is likely he sees himself as too big a player to wait around for that on low wages.

It is 1st September 11pm, and we have 7 League games before then
I guess that could be a good thing - means a player like Cornet could get 7 games for us before someone comes in for him, although not sure how the World Cup matches up with those.

I was hoping it wouldn’t be as long, makes it trickier for VK to build a new squad , when a player comes up that he wants but not certain if the player he would be replacing is going to leave.
Pleased we are so active now to fill gaps we know.

If Cornet goes or stays is down to finances. We appear to need sales for purchases. I think Kompany will want to sell for the ability to bring in another 2/3 signings. I am also sure Cornet will not want to play in the Championship but possibly feels the love, so who knows.

It's down to finances in the sense that if a club offers £17.5m they can speak to him. We couldn't reject it.

Believe the release clause for Cornet social media team is £25m which is why there are no bids for him yet.
