Use to listen in the eighties, but very much had his day. More akin to smash and nicey now.. occasionally listen to radio 6 which can be interesting and eclectic in music. But mostly Spotify and podcasts now

Absolute Radio…pick your decade….Saturday morning with Frank Skinner is the only radio I’d say is a must listen.
Absolute radio in most of its formats is ok if you chop and change, but Frank Skinner is the most self indulgent bore I have ever heard. Give me silence any day…

Each to their own tho…

Always listen to absolute radio 90s, sometimes 80s.
Steve Wright and the posse was good in the early 90s on Radio 1, Captain Fishys boner and all that. Don't know who was on with him but they were funny.

Frank Skinner on a Saturday morning is a good listen. He plays some very obscure stuff and is generally very funny. Also a huge fan of The Fall and I remember when Mark E Smith died he opened the show with 3 Fall songs and was in tears when he spoke after the records finished.

I work on a Saturday morning and listen to Frank every week so essential listening for me.

I do listen to him regularly.
However two things really annoy me:
1. He forever talks over records particularly at the end.
2. His facile interviews of celebrities eg It must be so good to have a hit record. or How does it feel to visit Britain.
And another thing - why does the travel news always feature road problems in Scottish no man’s land first, when more of us driving in England or even South Wales.

With Mills and Cox in the afternoon it will be a very good listen with plenty of music being played.

Vernon Kay is also very good when he steps on for Zoe Ball.

Yeah Vernon Kay is great on the radio (and I was never a huge fan of him on the telly). Some just take to the format better than others.

"Great show so far Steve"
"Love the show Steve"
"Great show Steve!"
"please sing over the last part of the record Steve"

It is so you attune your ears to the traffic report. If they started down south, you might miss it. The south is more important than Scotland.

The show is stuck in a time warp but very popular back in the day. Probably doesn’t meet the BBCs new requirements. Don’t mind presenters such as Sara Cox, Vine, Bruce and Whiley but cannot tolerate Nihal, Laura Whitmore, Paul o’ Grady or Scot Mills and the radio had to go straight off if they come on.

Definitely not before time..but if the personality vacuum that is Scott Mills is the best they can do as a replacement there must be a talent shortage.
Best presenters on the radio by a mile for me are Mark Radcliffe and Stuart McConie on 6Music weekend mornings.....great selection of music and excellent band amusing banter. A great shame that the station moved them from their daily weekday afternoon slot. Don't mind Frank Skinner on Absolute but these two are the top men for me and the music on 6 is at least more varied than the Britpop loop tape on Absolute. Also loved Mark Radcliffe as one half of Mark & Lard in the days when they were on Radio 1.
Don't get why people rate Sara Cox......it's just tedious jolly hockey sticks ,mumsy, "dancing round my kitchen" crud whenever I hear her. Ken Bruce addresses the audience as if we are primary schoolchildren !

No more talking over the end of a tune and no more crap singing at the end of a tune?

I'm heartbroken.

Bobbie can come and live with me though, if she's struggling.
The talking and singing over the end of every record really used to plss me and the wife off....eventually we stopped listening to the fat bellend :(

Scott Mills is an odd one because he’s actually quite good on Radio 1 and if you look at what that demographic is saying they’re devastated he’s leaving. You’d think after being on R1 for over 20 years, R2 would be a natural progression, but it just doesn’t seem to work.
