Some really poor performances in there. Maatsen and Cullen particularly poor. Barnes offering nothing.

Re: Watford V Burnley Match Thread
I’d be taking Bastien and Costelloe off at half time - Tella and Jay on.
Re: Watford V Burnley Match Thread
The standard of refereeing is so poor in general.
Re: Watford V Burnley Match Thread
I'm not sure what Bastien is doing tonight. He looks lost wandering around trying to get in to the action

I would try Jayrod and Tella for Barnes and Costelloe.

Re: Watford V Burnley Match Thread
Costelloe lost on the left, Cullen being overworked and we’re too negative going forward.
We’re not going to get anything from the halfwit ref so time for a big second half.

I don’t blame refs to be honest. All he does is play for set pieces. It’s so frustrating to watch.Tricky Trevor wrote: ↑Fri Aug 12, 2022 8:49 pmClear handball in the box. This ref hates Ash Barnes, he’s given him nothing all night.

Re: Watford V Burnley Match Thread
Dreadful time to concede, but hopefully it might wake us up, surely changes will happen at HT, cos I can't believe Vincent will be happy with that tepid display.
Re: Watford V Burnley Match Thread
Cork for Bastien, Tella for Costelloe, and Jay for Barnes at half time please.
That was w@nk.

Switch them both. Benson is getting nowhere looking to cut back onto his left foot.

Where’s VAR when you need it. Last season we went down because of it. This season we are dropping points everywhere by not getting nailed on pens.
Re: Watford V Burnley Match Thread
Need to get some footballers on the pitch, barnes and costelleoe are not the answer, my opinion obviousy.

Fans are so fickle. Get a grip, we've been playing fine and we defended that well enough. Just a very well placed goal.

Agree with this, thought the game was a (deserved) 0-0 game until that goal on the stroke. Both teams been laboured to be honest.

We need two new strikers and more height at the back.

Benson has been anonymous since the first couple of fouls. Kompany was giving him an earful in the drinks break.

Seems from 2 1/2 games that costelloe looks out his depth. Work rate is good but no end product.

Re: Watford V Burnley Match Thread
All about the tempo and movement for me. Very sluggish tonight...is it the heat maybe?
Barnes just doesn't cut it for me I'm afraid. He isn't the answer at all. Costelloe seems a square peg in a round hole.
We really shouldn't be losing this game. Watford have offered little until the goal.
Tella for Costelloe?

I’ve got to admit, after that 45 minutes I’m still struggling to see where our goals are going to come from.

Re: Watford V Burnley Match Thread
Bastian playing like he did in the first half against Luton, no midfield, we really miss cork. I hope Lowton comes back into this side as Roberts is all over the place.
We are in desperate need of another striker as well if that wasn’t already obvious and it seems like City have had our pants down with Muric. Going to be a long season looking at this side. We have now gone too far in the other direction, we lack experience and boy does it show.

We played further up the pitch vs Huddersfield and there were always midfielders running into the channel. I haven’t seen that at all this first half

I'm quite happy with that half.
Yes, we let in a sloppy goal and have fallen asleep a couple of times but the lads have shown lots of quality.
It's coming together and will click at some stage.
Keep supporting not criticising.

Really good test for our new young players - this is the top of the Championship in all its, well, whatever it is. Physical, cynical, quick - can our guys prevail in the kind of maelstrom these games create?
My view - not yet, but in a few weeks or months, they will.

Brownhill fast asleep not tracking Cleverley at all and by the time he sees the problem he is too far away. Poor.

Re: Watford V Burnley Match Thread
A few thoughts. A centre back is needed desperately. Taylor isn’t the answer. He was caught between holding his position and his natural instinct to close down as a left back for the goal, in the end he did neither. Barnes too much whinging. Costelloe not good enough. Benson needs to dust himself down and carry on. For me. Get that tella on for costelloe

Costelloe made runs behind again into the space and never found once. Brownhill has offered nothing and fell asleep for the goal. Needs to get involved more and take the game by the scruff of the neck

Re: Watford V Burnley Match Thread
Odd half. Feel like Benson and Costello have looked really out of it or have had to turn back at every opportunity. Think that’s stemming from lack of movement from Barnes so I’d be bringing Jay on at HT and looking to Tella and Vitinho if it’s not stuck better after 60 mins
Re: Watford V Burnley Match Thread
Costelloe is the weak one up front. Too slow and poor decision making but he's young. Time for Jay or trella
