Hull Team
Watched there match highlights, they have recruited incredibly well.
They will be a serious challenge on Tuesday night. There individual players in midfield are arguably the best in the league.

Re: Hull Team
Thought they looked pretty average from what I saw and Norwich battered them. They scored two incredibly lucky goals.
First game they won via a penalty which was never a pen in a million years.
Not saying it won’t be an tough game but not convinced by your summary they have the best midfield in the league (that’s because we do).

But that midfield three of Slater, Seri and Tufan is up there in this league.
Important we get goals against this lot as they will create good chances with that midfield

Re: Hull Team
Watched them yesterday - they’re a threat going forward and break very quickly. Their defence was very poor and Norwich should have had the game won after 15 mins, they had so many chances.
Going to be a tough game but I’d expect a narrow win

At Preston last week they had 0.21 xG to PNE's 2.11.
I think it's another game we will dominate possession wise, let's hope we can get the first goal this time, seems to suit us a lot more right now.

Re: Hull Team
True but isn’t our Combined XG this season only 2.3?
I think this will be a really tight game on Tuesday. I’m hoping we get some extra quality in by then.

Hudd 0.16 v our 1.42
Luton 1.21 v our 0.75
Watford 0.24 v our 0.91
infogol.net is the source for that.

Let's disagree over the nonsense that is XG.
Re: Hull Team
I know many people don’t like it but I think it’s a very useful metric, just not to use it in isolation.

Regardless of XG, Hull currently sit top of the table and from what I have seen they are going to be a serious challenge

Fair enough. Will be a challenge of course. Hopefully Jay Rod is fit enough to start the game.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 14, 2022 8:49 amRegardless of XG, Hull currently sit top of the table and from what I have seen they are going to be a serious challenge

Cork, Cullen and Brownhill are the best midfield in the league, it's up front that we need to improve.

Don’t get me wrong it’s up there but I don’t think it’s the best.

Re: Hull Team
I wouldn’t dismiss Hull, quite a few on this board said they would be dark horses and currently they are living up to that title.
Put it this way of the three teams we have played so far I suspect hill will finish higher than two of them.

Our present personal don't look to have the physical attributes to last a championship season
Nothing crazy about a fact that we look way of the mark I said the same thing after we beat an unbelievably poor Huddersfield side.

Some supporters want instant success. We've not even put out our best 11 yet with injuries and lack of match fitness, and there are still more bodies coming in. I would say Vincent Kompany knows exactly where we are, what is required and ultimately, what he's going to do about it.
Three games in and we're being written off by sections our own supporters. Kin'ell

Have to completely disagree that we look ‘way off the mark’. We’ve barely faced a shot on goal.Top Claret wrote: ↑Sun Aug 14, 2022 5:19 pmT

Deserved at least a point at Watford (who will be up there) and neutrals / pundits I’ve seen have agreed. You said a good team would ‘wipe the floor’ with us - well Watford didn’t, at all. Completely dominated Huddersfield who just beat Stoke 3-1, you claimed we should forget about that win??
In fact, I’d say early signs are incredibly promising as when this team actually clicks (could be months) and we add a few players in key areas, we will be very very dangerous. I’m just hoping pick up enough points to be in and around the top 6 by that point.

I couldn't agree more he was excellent. I thought the midfield 3 all looked quality
Hull deserved there point and if they had have showed more endeavour in the 2nd half they would have taken all 3 as we never looked like scoring

The second best chance of the game came from a Tufan through ball that there striker fluffed. (Must admit I thought he was offside though)

Re: Hull Team
Certainly no troll just telling you how I see it.
We created little with all our possession. Hull just sat back and absorbed everything we sent there way, other teams will be watching us now and they won't be giving us the same respect as Hull and Watford did.
We really do need to speed things up and try and get the ball behind more as we look pedestrian and familiar
Re: Hull Team
We had 2.74 xG vs Hull’s 0.49.Top Claret wrote: ↑Wed Aug 17, 2022 9:07 amCertainly no troll just telling you how I see it.

That suggests we created more than enough to win the game comfortably.

15 shots (5/5/5) and 4 clear cut chances whereas Hull was 3/1/0 and 2 ccc.
Re: Hull Team
The concern at the moment is that's pretty much every side we've played, yet we've little to show for our efforts.

Re: Hull Team
I think your missing the point.
We created chances but never looked like scoring (as weird as that sounds). I stick by the view that a top number 10 and striker this team scores a shed load of goals.
We just don’t have that end ball quality as it stands

Good to see you’ve skipped the replies to your rather daft comment that we created nothing compared to Hull.

Re: Hull Team
No, I think you've missed the point. We are discussing Hull, not our current shortcomings. Hull's "quality" midfield conceded 77% possession and allowed four clear cut chances.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 17, 2022 9:16 amI think your missing the point.

Re: Hull Team
Funny how different people see it.
I thought Hull were poor. They were very much like us for many of our premier league away games. I expected more of their supposed strong midfield. They launched it and hoped for the best most of the time and their threat came because we were pushing so far up there was space and 1v1s when the ball went through (defend that long ball properly and we win that game, both Taylor and THB at fault when I’ve watched it back).
They were resolute late on and our subs certainly helped them deal well with any threat we posed (which by then was limited)
However for 70 mins we created enough chances to win that game comfortably:
Jay missed two glorious opportunities
Cullen header back post
Bastien fresh air swipe
Brownhill hit the side netting when he should do better
Vitinho straight at the keeper when brilliantly put in by Roberts
Add to that the bits around the box where it just didn’t quite fall right (squirmed and bobbled away) and we were much the better side.
My mate who goes home and away watching Hull said they are very much set up to be compact and counter. We saw that last night and it may well do them good. But he says they lack depth in the squad and given the choice I’d rather watch us than them at the minute.
