Love the way that "everything will be fine" when Twine returns. Some great signs from the team we have, but we need a giant alongside THB so that we do at least have a chance at set pieces and corners, where we are just not a threat, and to help in not conceding silly goals. We also need a striker with pace that can find the net at a much greater frequency than Barnes & Rodriguez. Jay should have had a hat trick tonight, but at least he got on the end of them

Completely disagree Maatsen was a constant threat down the left, and got an assist, I'm not sure what more you expect from a full back.

Twine and another forward and we'll be ok. THB exceptional tonight, Cullen is an excellent player as is Maatsen.

We need another good CM now Westwood is still out for a while.
Cork is a great player but too slow when opponents look to hit us on the break (which they will all want to do)

Re: Burnley v Hull match thread
Absolutely. Thought we were very dominant and have been in every game so far. Results don't perhaps reflect how comfortable we've been.
Plenty to improve on, of course. But confident we will.
I keep saying it - way more positives than negatives.

Thought there were some really good signs, and we’ll be a good side in time.
Yeah, the tempo was lacking at times and you’d like to see a bit more movement up front, but they’ve played 4 games together. If you think we’re gonna be rocking up and beating teams 5-0 this early, you’re not going to enjoy this season at all.
Time and patience (and a couple more players) and we’ll be more than okay.

Not sure if it’s just the tika taka style but I found large swaithes of the games was just passing for passings sake.
Found it very boring to watch for 5 mins sessions through out the game

Have to disagree with this. We certainly did threaten but our final touch, shot, cross just let us down at important times.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 16, 2022 9:30 pmTbf we can have as much possession as possible but fundamentally we are just not threatening the opposition.
I said before the game that I have no idea where the goals are going to come from in this squad and I still have no idea.
Quality in the final third is seriously lacking
Re: Burnley v Hull match thread
I'd rather have 70% possession than 30% which is what we've endured for 6 years. Opposition can't score if they don't have the ball. Just got to make sure we're switched on for breakaway and find the cutting edge. Simples!

If that pattern repeats it won't stay entertaining for too long. If passing around was all that made a decent watch teams would bebrexit wrote: ↑Tue Aug 16, 2022 9:48 pmWe didn't score goals last season and got relegated, we appear not to be able to score goals this and probably won't get promoted.
The pattern for the season would seem to be, concede a soft goal and have a 50/50 chance of equalizing
But it is entertaining, really enjoying the football
Is not scoring goals the Burnley thing?
selling tickets for training sessions.
But to be fair its more a 65/35 chance of equalising.

I get your point. That is the tika-taka format. Watching that great Barcelona side without Messi was a very different affair. He really made the difference between domination with and without goals.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 16, 2022 10:04 pmYes when it clicks it’s really entertaining. But football is most frequently imperfect. There have to be lulls along with energetic spells in most games. I can take what I'm watching as being worth the money. We're trying to do the right things. I would love some height so that set-pieces become a genuinely dangerous position for us. Nice as THB Jay and Taylor are, they're not very intimidating at corners etc.

Talk about possession and passing... None of it amounts to anything other than giving the ball away.

Re: Burnley v Hull match thread
We have got so used to Dycheball in the Premier League that possession itself is seen as ‘good football’. But the problem is that the ball is moving so slowly and so predictably that the opposition can just sit deep and crowd the edge of the penalty area and we struggle to create. The problem would remain even with a better striker. We have to get faster with the passing and less predictable - maybe that will come with time.

Re: Burnley v Hull match thread
I think the issue here is the patterns of play that Kompany is looking for. The passing it around the back is intentional to draw them out, but just as we’ve remained disciplined over the years, if you stay in shape it’s hard to break them down.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 16, 2022 10:04 pmYes when it clicks it’s really entertaining. Overall, you cannot complain at a performance with nearly 80% possession. That was our best performance, I thought, but I would like to see a plan b and a change with 10 minutes to go. For instance Muric passing it to Taylor with seconds to go is ludicrous.
Re: Burnley v Hull match thread
Honestly some of you lot need a reality check. It's only been 4 games and we've signed 11 new players. Chill the f?ck out and have a bit of patience.

I personally found this game and the Watford game an incredibly difficult watch. Hopefully Twine coming back and some better quality coming in towards the end of the market will change things up.

Said after the Huddersfield game that Maatsen and THB , our two loans would be our best signings , as they were too good for their respective clubs to risk selling them. Tella might well fall into this category too. I know it appears Delap is not being targetted , but I think he could be sensational in the Championship. As we stand there is no guarrantee in all games that we will convert one or more of the many chances we are creating. What you can be sure of though, as Watford and Hull nearly proved tonight, they need just one chance to get all three pointsxxmunkyennuixx wrote: ↑Tue Aug 16, 2022 9:49 pmMaatsen excellent. Embarrassing from the fan base sarcastically cheering Taylor passing to Maatsen, we have 11 new players, a brand new style of play, coaching staff probably don’t know their best formation and are trying to figure it out. We have played 4 games and could easily of won them all, majority of the time it doesn’t look like a team that have only been together for 9 weeks, some of them have only been around it a couple of weeks. it’s like some fans think we have some right to win 46 out of 46. I’m excited again for Saturday to see how we get on, when it clicks it with be fantastic to watch

Charlie Taylor doesn't look happy having to pass inside or square all the time. He had one good run in the first half and then looked frightened to go forward. I'd rather see a proper big CH and Taylor out wide. Maatsen in front of him. Roberts??? Doesnt seem to fit in this sytem. Striker needed!!!
