Egan-riley
Egan-riley
Having read the thread titled burnley on the bluemoon forum a lot of city fans were upset we got this lad on a permanent deal instead of a loan as they had high hopes he could do well in the city team, he came for 1st team football as a defender or perhaps a holding midfielder, how do we fit him in at present?

Very surprised that VK persists playing Taylor there and thought he would have partnered THB for the Huddersfield game. Hope he starts v Shrewsbury

Or Luke Mcnally who's 22, I'm equally puzzled by this.warksclaret wrote: ↑Wed Aug 17, 2022 11:09 amVery surprised that VK persists playing Taylor there and thought he would have partnered THB for the Huddersfield game. Hope he starts v Shrewsbury
CJER is only 19 so perhaps not quite ready.

Re: Egan-riley
I think its the main position I'll trust Kompanys judgement on, maybe he just feels he needs a little more time on the training ground going through how he wants him to play in our system. I hope that's what it is anyway, as I also agree that Im not sure Taylor suits that role yet

Re: Egan-riley
I imagine we'll see both him and McNally against Shrewsbury given how many games we've got in quick succession and wanting to get the players on the fringes of the starting 11 some game time.

Its essential for the motivation of these young fringe players-plus a chance for VK to see what they can do

If Kyle Walker is Egan Riley’s mentor it may be Roberts he will replace. I have been quite disappointed with the output from that flank compared to Maatsen.

Or maybe the opposite. Can often be that a manager struggles with the position he played inBurnley1989 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 17, 2022 11:15 amI think its the main position I'll trust Kompanys judgement on

Roberts set up arguably our second best chance of the game for Vitinho with some superb skill.CrosspoolClarets wrote: ↑Wed Aug 17, 2022 11:57 amIf Kyle Walker is Egan Riley’s mentor it may be Roberts he will replace. He’s also not got the same space / license to attack that Maatsen has in the current set up as the right wide forward (Vitinho last night) is hugging the touch line. Roberts is asked to play a withdrawn role in the build up phase. I will say Roberts played their guy onside for their goal though.

The guy who I thought was offside was the one coming back for the flick on. It was right opposite me but all TV replays have it starting a second later.RVclaret wrote: ↑Wed Aug 17, 2022 12:00 pmRoberts set up arguably our second best chance of the game for Vitinho with some superb skill.

It is a fair point though that it appears tactical to not push up from RB the same as LB. I expected both to push on and Cullen dropping back like in Belgium to attack that space they all leave when defending narrow against us, but Vinny must have other ideas which is fair do.

Re: Egan-riley
Yep we haven’t seen that from Cullen / Kompany yet. I think that was the build up style in the 4-2-2-2 when he had Zirkzee and Kouame as a genuine 2 up top. The full backs then provided the width and the two ‘wingers’ came inside. Not been used yet, whether that’s because of personnel available im not sure.CrosspoolClarets wrote: ↑Wed Aug 17, 2022 12:04 pmThe guy who I thought was offside was the one coming back for the flick on. 19 years old, 1 professional league appearance. He has time on his side, no need to rush. Taylor doing a good job for me and adding some much experience in the side.

Re: Egan-riley
When we signed him there was City fans who couldn’t believe it as they thought he was a natural successor to Walker.
