West Brom women's team ditch white shorts over period concerns
West Bromwich Albion's women's team have switched their home-kit white shorts to navy ones due to concerns about players' comfort on their periods, the English club said on Thursday.
Albion Women, who compete in England's third-tier FA Women's National League North, will wear blue shorts for the remainder of the 2022-23 season and beyond.
"Wearing white clothing while on a period is an issue that has been highlighted by women across all sports, and Albion will ensure this is fully considered when designing all future home kits," the club said on their website.
The decision to change the shorts was taken after full consultation with the players, the club added.
"This change will help us to focus on our performance without added concerns or anxiety," Albion Women captain Hannah George said.

Coach Jenny Sugarman said she was proud of the club's decision.
"It's another sign of the continued integration of the women's team across the club and recognition of a progressive and inclusive culture," she said.
The issue of women athletes wearing white clothing was brought up at this year's Wimbledon Tennis Championships when female players spoke about the anxiety of being forced to wear white.
England forward Beth Mead was questioned about the team's all-white kit at the women's European Championship and said it was sometimes not practical.

Not sure just why they needed to publicise this and how do other female teams in various sports who wear while shorts/trousers, manage to cope?

Either they make the change, say nothing and wait for people to ask about it, or they publicise it as an opportunity to have a conversation about something that’s a pretty big deal in women’s sport.

Only sweat and tears then...
As already mentioned, why the need to publicise it.

Reported in the media this summer, again, when Wimbledon (tennis) was on. It's regularly highlighted as one of the reasons why a lot of teenage girls drop out of sports.
Needs to be publicised so that things can be changed.

Re: West Brom women's team ditch white shorts over period concerns
This was raised several weeks ago in relation to the England Women's football kit and there was some publicity around it then and I see no issue with some publicity around it now. Can anyone come up with a genuine, adult reason why it can't be discussed when it is an issue for female sportspeople?
As I posted in the summer, the England women's rugby team have been asking for the same and it became a topic around the Wimbledon dress code this year.
I can fully understand their concerns and see no issue with it whatsoever. There was a refreshingly honest interview on the radio during Wimbledon from one of the British tennis players (I forget who) around how women are affected by this. A debate followed thereafter that really highlighted a number of things that I, as a 45-year old father of a 14-year old girl, don't necessarily appreciate. This ranged from the subject topic, to performance and emotional issues, to pains.
I see no issue with this whatsoever and think it's a perfectly reasonable request and discussion point.

Plenty have raised concerns.
Why wouldn’t they want to publicise it if they have concerns? Why should they keep it quiet?

It's 2022.
If you are sniggering, or god forbid mocking this, then get a grip.
It's pragmatic, sensible and right. It shouldn't even be a news article, but here we are.......

I disagree with the title change. I thought it went very well as a point of emphasis with the positive PR out from WBA on the matter. This is up the clarets, not The Guardian

Fabulous, we all should be fully aware of EVERYONE’S concerns. Bravo for bringing this up so that Neanderthals actually start to think our women are,at least equal, if not better than most of us.
