It's topical though, but hey have invaded Ukraine,Putin has sent Canon fodder,if Ukraine showing them so what ? It demoralised the Russians and makes the Ukrainians realise they can defeat the invaders.AlargeClaret wrote: ↑Sun Nov 20, 2022 3:48 pmYou really think there’s not just as many vids of UKR’s military captured /blown apart / broken and demoralised? Posting this sort of content along with vids of blowing up tanks /soldiers etc from either side is the ultimate voyeurs cowardice . There’s no winners in this conflict , though perhaps a bit of common decency rather than gloating over captured terrified simpletons would be more appropriate ?

Nothing changes - fighting in the November mud in Ukraine is next to impossible for non-tracked vehicles
Suspect this month will involve not a lot of movement unless the mud freezes
Re: Russia Invades
If that had tractor type tyres (with 'V's on) it might well get through that mud with it's four wheel drive.

Should have chains as well
But the point doesn't change, its going to be hard logistically to supply, especially if you've already suffered catastrophic losses to your supply chain mechanism
Re: Russia Invades
Hope none of the HIMARS are risked in such muddy circumstances as they would be sitting ducks for the Russian artillery or drones.

More Russian TV debate
Worth a listen, as its clear that the presenter is articulating the hard line loved by the more extreme in Russia, but he's being taken apart by the more moderate members of the panel
They wouldn't do that if they weren't allowed to, so you can read this as Russia is as aware of the dangers of nukes and is beginning to realise that it is alone
I think this a very good sign and provides a potential pathway to a settlement, but (as stated at the time) Putin signing regions he never controlled into the Russian constitution complicates it a lot.

No doubt the arms manufacturers are hoping this war goes on for a long, long time. It’s all a bit sick isn’t it.

If mud does start to become an issue then I can see the UK letting the Ukrainians having some of our Vikings (the older less powerful models if any still exist) and of course they would be ideal for river crossing.

Re: Russia Invades
Russia targeting civilian infrastructure is essentially their tactics which they still use in Syria
Now they will probably think as they managed to help Assad recover from certain defeat to a never ending civil war, that counts as a win
Very unlikely that such tactics will work in Ukraine though, and it is a waste of Russia diminishing stockpiles of modern weaponry

It’s only getting colder from now on.
I have slept in my fishing bivvy in under zero temps with a 5 season sleeping bag and was still cold. At least I was dry and could make hot drink in the morning. I cannot even imagine how bad it must be to cold and wet with no cover over you.

What do we think is Putin's end game now? To take the areas he thinks are his and not stop until that's accepted by everyone else, and to do that just bomb Ukraine until they give in? It's all just so pointless, i can't get my head around a supposed civilised European state doing this to what should be their brothers and sisters.

Thing is, if they didn't have nukes, I'm pretty sure that there would be a no-fly zone enforced by now, as all Russia are doing is attacking civilian infrastructure to try to force a Ukrainian settlement, or a huge refugee crisis in EuropeJellybean wrote: ↑Fri Nov 25, 2022 6:08 pmWhat do we think is Putin's end game now? Its essentially what they think was successful in Syria
Course, because of everything you correctly say about attitudes in Europe and Ukrainian reluctance to bow to threats, then I'm not sure its a successful strategy
Course, you can never predict just how willing those in the West are to capitulate at the first sign of discomfort, but if we get through this winter, and manage to supply Ukraine with enough stuff and tech to protect their infrastructure, then Russia can mobilise as many men as they want, but they won't have the modern equipment for them, and the economy will collapse
But lets get the Ukrainians through the winter first

I used to think that people were basically decent, and it's only the governments, or rulers that were capable of being despotic. The way Russia carries out 'war' against women and children, the way their TV audiences are fed on bile and hatred, with no argument, leads me to believe I was wrong.
There are bound to be decent people in Russia, but not enough to make a difference to this war. Putin has run out of end games, he'll just keep going to the bitter end, which may take years.
The only alternative, imo, is if WE up the anti and put an end to it quickly, but that comes at a price to us as well. So do we bleed slowly and drag this out, or bleed freely and finish it. The longer it goes on the more I'm inclined to the latter. The human race can't move forward with this hanging over our heads constantly.

Either that’s because there’s some form of regrouping / reorganising going on (although that doesn’t fit with continued high levels of personnel losses)… or there’s just not enough left to destroy! In which case, hard to imagine them lasting much longer against a well equipped army.

If they have to heavily recruit in Russia proper (St Petersburg. Moscow) and the heavy casualties continue, then they might be issues, but Russia just isn't used to not having a "strong man"
You will see a huge increase of WWII "Great Patriotic War" propaganda as well, as the Russian look to the war even more than we do
