Team for Sunday

Post by alwaysaclaret » Tue Dec 06, 2022 7:43 pm

Given we've no Zaroury, but possibly a return for twine and churlinov, interested what people's thoughts are.

Yeah no need to overthink this. The only debate would be Jay or Barnes up front, given Barnes is the man in possession. Otherwise it picks itself, and Twine and Churlinov can give us great options from the bench.

Nowt to add cb 👍 that would do nicely and a nice little cameo for Twine off the bench 2nd half 😉

Reckon VK could throw a curveball and start one of Churlinov or Twine on the inside left, allowing Maatsen to fly on the outside again.

He could but its more likely he'd play Tella in that same role, and for my money given he's been outstanding for most of the season (until understandably tiring immediately before the break) he deserves the slot.

Yes I’d agree. Though with Tella in that role we seemed a bit unbalanced and leave big spaces on the left, as he gets right up there centrally with Jay and Maatsen bombs on. For me, some of our best football came when we played through the lines (Watford away second half, Huddersfield away spring to mind) when Bastien was in that role. Anyway, plenty of (great) choices to have.

We've generally looked unbalanced when we had Tella and Vitinho on that side, both looking to come inside, and against more defensively minded sides than I understand QPR to be, and in any event I think that with Benson having found his feet before the break we're generally a slightly different proposition now.

Bastien is an excellent option but the 433 shape was working nicely IMO. Thus far Kompany has introduced new players who have minimal Championship experience carefully and I'd be surprised if that didn't continue with Churlinov and Twine.

Big chance for Tella to ‘re-find’ his best form.

It seems odd saying a man of the match with two goals as well shouldn’t play in the following game but one swallow doesn’t make a summer. Barnes was amazing v Rovers but it’s hard to forget all the dreadful performances prior to that. If he could reproduce his Rovers performance again he would be great but I think we all know different. Having said that it might have done his confidence good so who knows. Maybe he could be given a half hour start to see what he does but I think it must be Jay really.

You said it, confidence. Makes all the difference to any player, but especially a centre forward. With the benefit of confidence, why shouldn't he reproduce his Rovers performance? Why is it more likely he would produce the performances he produced when he didn't have confidence because he hadn't been scoring goals?

———————————Muric
Vitinho———-THB———-Beyer———Maatsen
——————Cork——————-Cullen
—Benson————-Brownhill———-Tella
——————————-Barnes

BPF, Taylor, Bastien, Twine, Gudmundsson, Churlinov, Rodriguez

Barnes shirt to lose after Blackburn, for me.

I hope to see Twine from the bench!

I just wonder why so many want to change a winning team? Although its a nice problem now upfront for VK.

Agreed... Wasn't he instrumental in the build up for one (or two?) of those goals?

I think who's on the bench could be really important, not just for the game itself, but for the rest of the season. Have to say , can't wait.

For me Jay has to start ahead of Barnes if fit. I'm a huge advocate of Barnes and he was brilliant against them down the road... but he's no Jay Rod.

Totally agree. Which is why maybe a start to see how it goes. If he has restored some confidence who knows. The question is does he need to ‘hate’ the opposition to reproduce his last performance? He obviously upped his game for Rovers and no one can question what he did in that game. Perhaps VK should be showing him pictures of QPR players saying ‘this is your enemy’ and then feed him on raw meat. Then take his chains off in the tunnel.

I think we will see Twine coming off the bench after about 60 minutes. He will replace Brownhill who will drop back into Cork's midfield role.
VK will go with the more settled side i.e. Vitinho and Maatsen as fullbacks plus Rodriguez up top. However these 3 (plus the Cork change) will be swapped for Taylor, Roberts and Barnes to see the game out.

Unchanged side, but a few new faces on the bench would do me nicely.

Barnes has always been a player in spells, this could be the start of his run. Id give him the go ahead in the next game and if he doesn't produce then back to Jay.

Muric
Vitinho THB Beyer Maatsen
Cork Cullen
Benson Brownhill Tella
Rodriguez/Barnes

No way Twine or Churlinov will start. Team picks itself, just a choice between JRod or Barnes up front.
