Kris Kamara

Post by mdd2 » Tue Dec 13, 2022 12:51 pm

I noticed him slurring his words on TV recently and he has been given a diagnosis of speech apraxia which isnt good for him and his work which relies so much on communication. I wish him well and hope it isnt the start of something more sinister but i suspect it is given when it has started.

Absolutely. Too fella, top presenter,

In this day and age, I wouldn’t have thought that any sort of speech impediment would restrict an employment opportunity even if that employment was purely presenting.

Wish him nothing but the best.

He left Soccer Saturday I think last season, but I was pleasantly surprised to see him still doing his daytime tv stuff, I think I saw him presenting a podcast recently too.

It hasn't stopped him much at all, he's as busy as ever according to a podcast he did with Steven Bartlett. It's a really good listen where he goes into the full effects of his condition.

I've listened to a few of his own podcast which he recently launched with Ben Shepherd and it's very good. He speaks at a slower rate, but his wit personality are unaffected.

Top bloke.

Unless my memory is playing tricks, when we played Brentford at the Turf in 81/82 KK was clean through when someone in the crowd blew a whistle and he stopped. The match finished 0-0

Think he brought Mark Schwarzer and our very own little magician to Bradford when he was manager there.

Apraxia of Speech in adults is typically resulting from a neurological condition so he may have had a stroke/or a TIA (mini stroke), or perhaps has some other condition that is affecting the neural pathways that are required for the motor planning of speech production.

I have a vague recollection that mdd2 may well know about various health problems relating to this condition and others :D

A few years back i got a message from the Mrs saying "there's a bloke in our office called Chris who works for Sky Sports, the lads seem quite excited about it. I'm not sure who he is." They were all about to head down to pub, so I wandered down to meet them. Turned out one of her colleagues also worked as Kris Kamara's agent. A genuinely lovely bloke who was happy to chat to anyone (and wasn't too disparaging about Burnley). Also did a bit of club singing I believe. Pleased to hear the diagnosis isn't holding him back.

He always comes across as a constantly happy geezer who you'd enjoy having a pint with.
Our loss when he left Sky Sports.
Like others, I wish him well.

Had the pleasure of interviewing him a few years ago. Charming guy who is great for a tale or two. Sad to see him like this but glad to see he is pushing through.

Well it should if they can't be understood by most people.

The object is to communicate by speech and if you can't be understood then you can't do the job. The BBC seem to think it's OK to employ native reporters for their foreign reports who can't speak intelligible english, at least to my ears. What's the point?

I sit fairly close to the cameras at the back of JH. When we were being battered by Everton a few years back I heard him giving it the 'unbelievable Jeff' routine at the top of his voice. He saw me watching him and then he laughed and then put his thump up at me.
