Hope so Pete we will have 4 good strikers then, two experienced ones to help the less experience ones learn from two good old pros. UTC

Re: Obafemi
Just read on Twitter, Barnes may be going the other but in a separate deal.
Re: Obafemi
If Barnsie does go in the other direction ... good luck to him ... Ash has been a cracking servant to this club for a good few years and gained Legend status with his double v "The Filth"Lowbankclaret wrote: ↑Thu Jan 26, 2023 4:58 pmJust read on Twitter, Barnes may be going the other but in a separate deal.
His passion for the game is always on show.
Too many have been dismissive of him and his shithouserie ... but Barnes in my eyes will ALWAYS BE A CLARET

Not sure how I feel about the Obafemi signing tbh. Naturally I want him to do well, but could he be a divisive figure on a ton of money within a squad that has been so settled and together? He hasn’t exactly gone about matters in the right way at Swansea but here’s hoping I’m wrong.

Re: Obafemi
The Swansea manager was heaping praise on him last week for his attitude. Just said he’d struggled to deal with the summer situation when he thought he was leaving.Ampth7 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 26, 2023 6:18 pmNot sure how I feel about the Obafemi signing tbh. Josh Cullen will know him from the Ireland squad and I’m sure he will have been asked about Obafemi.
I thought a couple of days ago that it was the next permanent deal but it’s looking like a loan now although with an obligation to buy. I thought it might have been announced today but obviously not.

Re: Obafemi
Barnes will be leaving Burnley soon, whether in this window or at the end of the season, so if Swansea are interested, and we sign Obafemi it might well be the right time to part ways with Ash and wish him well at Swansea.Lowbankclaret wrote: ↑Thu Jan 26, 2023 4:58 pmJust read on Twitter, Barnes may be going the other but in a separate deal.

If it works for both clubs and both players then it has to be the right thing to do.
is the risk greater on our side?

Re: Obafemi
Barnes deserves one last Claret party before he goes
But. If leaving now sets up with wages for another few years then he would go with my blessing
Would be nice for D to go back to Brentford and Barnes to be back up until Summer in my opinion

Re: Obafemi
Let’s not get blind sided by a few decent months and nostalgia. Barnes has been great for the most part, but it’s time he left us. We need younger players and the recruitment has been good so far. He’s had 9 years out of us and we’ve had the same. I’d rather he left this year after the Rovers goals than quietly next year.

He was immense in that game.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Thu Jan 26, 2023 10:47 pmHe turned in possibly his best ever performance for us at Manchester City in 2014/15 but Kompany didn’t play in that game.

Re: Obafemi
We weren’t getting blindsided by nostalgia when he absolutely destroyed our neighbours 2 months ago. Barnes has had to adapt to a playing style of 60% possession from one of playing for free kicks with around 40%. Chalk and Cheese and he needed to adapt which took a couple of months. His recent performances have been as good as any other striker in this league.
We need new blood for next season of course but you can still get a good tune out of an old fiddle. Legend for us and wish him all the best whatever happens.

Re: Obafemi
For me Barnes could do an invaluble job for the remainder of this season. If a few "black arts" are required to salvage a point or hold onto a lead I can't think of a better player to turn to. Can you imagine in a few weeks at Ewood, after his much publcised comments after the home match, if he came on as a second half sub the home crowd would go ballistic, the Rovers players would abandon their game plan in order to kick him into row Z and forget about football. Can't wait

Re: Obafemi
Kompany has cited Barnes as one of the big influences in the dressing room. With Westwood and Lowton leaving I reckon he'll be looking to keep most of the other experienced players for this season.

Re: Obafemi
Agree some people seem to be letting sentiment cloud their judgement when it comes to Barnes, sure he's played well since Crawley, but he's not getting any younger, and the leap back to the Prem is massive, plus we're on a different path as a club now with younger pacier strikers being seen as the priority now.Claretforever wrote: ↑Thu Jan 26, 2023 11:05 pmLet’s not get blind sided by a few decent months and nostalgia. Happy for Ash to see out his contract this season if he wishes, as at this level he's still a useful asset even as a back-up option, but his last 2 years playing at PL level should be evidence enough that he's not capable of troubling top defenders anymore.
Also he's on a hefty wage by all accounts and we as a club seem to be intent on moving our old guard on.
Barnes will always be classed as a great servant of BFC, but all things come to an end eventually.
