Perhaps it more about getting players in now with a view to next season

Jovane sounds exactly like a player we don’t need
Arrogant and big headed. Talks too much and plays very little.
Leave him where he is.

Re: January transfer window rumours.
Surely Kompany and others no more about any player they are interested in and their attitudes than posters on here reading what could well be lazy or bitter reports by "modern journalists"
Obafemi we should avoid
Cabral we should avoid
We were told we were doing it on the cheap through the summer, told we will struggle this season, relegation more likely than promotion.
Benson was crap and has no end product
Why not just trust the manager has he not earned that up to now

Honestly, what a time to be alive.....
"Judge us on what we do, not what we say" was the words of Alan Pace at the beginning...... And even though we are betting the ranch, its ours to loose.... And this journey we are on this season on and off the pitch is nothing short of incredible....
Managing to get Kompany and Bellamy was a master stroke in itself....

Kompany has said both injuries are short term, could be a case of him not classing JBG as a wide player anymore, so in theory bringing another wide player wouldn’t be a bad ideacolne-claret wrote: ↑Tue Jan 31, 2023 7:57 amIf this happens it makes me fear that JBG/Bensons injury could be worse than expected. Quiet day expected? We don't really need anyone do we? Maybe a Westwood replacement would have been nice but i don't think it's desperate. No last minute panic-buying this year...we've been well prepared!

Re: January transfer window rumours.
Think ideally we would like another central midfielder - we have 4 now having lost Westwood, and the back stop cover in the squad was Egan Riley who has gone on loan.
Of course those 4 are backed up by JBG, Twine and Rodriguez who can drop in as a 10, but it still leaves us slightly short on cover given our tendency to play 3 at any one time.
But that's council of perfection stuff really. There's no glaring gaps in this squad at all right now.

Agreed. An extra body in there could be really handy/essential if we were to lose one, or god forbid two, of Cullen/Cork/Browny through injury or suspension. Those deep lying CM's do put themselves about a lot in our team too.claretspice wrote: ↑Tue Jan 31, 2023 9:35 amThink ideally we would like another central midfielder - we have 4 now having lost Westwood, and the back stop cover in the squad was Egan Riley who has gone in loan.

Re: January transfer window rumours.
It makes you wonder with all the players we’ve brought in, what business we would as to actually look to do in the summer. If we were able to retain the loan players and sign a new midfielder, would that be us more or let set for the premier league?
Re: January transfer window rumours.
Jack Cork has 11 yellows from 29 appearances, that would suggest he's likely to finish the season with 17 cards which means it's more a case of when rather than if he'll be suspended. If Cullen or Brownhill get injured at the same time we'll be relying on Bastien to step in and if we lose another player we may even need someone like Vitinho or Charlie Taylor to slot in there for a game or two. I think we have enough in our squad to cope. For once we don't really seem to have an obvious candidate in the U21s to take a place on the bench if we are light in numbers in that area.ArmchairDetective wrote: ↑Tue Jan 31, 2023 9:43 amAgreed. Keeping the loan players would cost us a fortune given how they have played for us. I just hope we do have an option on Beyer but cant think City will release THB. Maatsen and Tella maybe get for combined £20million if we are lucky but no idea how they will perform in the Prem.PremierLeagueClass wrote: ↑Tue Jan 31, 2023 10:05 amIt makes you wonder with all the players we’ve brought in, what business we would as to actually look to do in the summer. Re: January transfer window rumours.
Bastien isn’t getting enough game time, so I’m unclear why adding another back up midfielder helps so much.
If we’re signing a new midfielder it’s an upgrade to the first team or we hold off until summer as far as I’m concerned.

For me it would take the shine off an otherwise great window if we didn’t get a CDM.ArmchairDetective wrote: ↑Tue Jan 31, 2023 9:43 amAgreed. You can argue that we could cover one injury/suspension to Cork/Cullen with Brownhill and JBG/Twine fitting in. I think if they were both out for whatever reason, we’d struggle. For me it seems a bit risky loaning CJ, bringing in 2 CB’s and loaning McNally, if you’re not going to add there.
Hadziahmetovic would’ve been perfect - defensive, but creative, capable of running with it, turning attack to defence. The other that occurs is Lokonga - Chelsea close to signing Jorginho, who plays in his position, and also have been after Caicedo (but not getting him), so he’s well down the picking order.

Re: January transfer window rumours.
Must say I'd be disappointed with this if it happens, certainly before the end of the season, when I believe he's out of contract.
AB can come on and unsettle defences like very few we have and knows where the net is, fair enough, he's not exactly permanently on fire, but a good option to have.
Like I say, the end of the season is another matter, but for now he should stay imo.

Re: January transfer window rumours.
Yeah, agree with this. Don’t really get the need for one, would much rather see Twine get a chance (plus already JBG there too) if Brownhill needs to drop back in.
Re: January transfer window rumours.
I was thinking about this last night. I'd expect BPF to move on for first team football and us to sign a very good keeper, possibly first choice. Unless he shows more between now and the end of the season then Bastien might need upgrading. Churlinov is in the same boat. Barnes is likely to leave in the summer which leaves a slot for another striker. Add Beyer, Maatsen, Tella, THB and Obafemi to it and it will have to be a really busy window again.PremierLeagueClass wrote: ↑Tue Jan 31, 2023 10:05 amIt makes you wonder with all the players we’ve brought in, what business we would as to actually look to do in the summer. Re: January transfer window rumours.
Yeah the loans we have now, will be interesting in terms of if we can get them and if they are fit for the prem (if we go up) and how much clubs will want for them.
THB - Potential we could get him on a season loan again? Can't see City selling
Beyer - Good chance of striking a deal.
Maatsen - Again we could get him, but is he good enough for the prem, and good value?
Tella - Love him, but depends on Southampton's situation and how much they want for him. Is he good enough for the prem? Can we get better value for say around 10 million?

Re: January transfer window rumours.
Id rather have Twine getting more minutes in the ten area and Brownhill alongside Cullen in the games where Cork is unavailable than sign someone just for the sake of it.
If we go up the options we’ll have at centre mid will be far bigger and that’s a really key signing (long term Cork replacement). I’d rather wait till then and go very big (for us).

Re: January transfer window rumours.
I think it's either an upgrade to the first team, or someone who is 'one for the future' - we signed Egan Riley and McNally in the summer clearly in the expectation they wouldn't feature immediately but could be developed over time, and no reason why we shouldn't do the same in midfield right now. But I agree, its insurance rather than necessity and if the right candidate isn't available, we shouldn't waste money for the sake of it.

Re: January transfer window rumours.
Sorry, meant Arsenal close to signing Jorginho (from Chelsea).
But he’s going Palace anyway.
Re: January transfer window rumours.
We’re not going to be signing another winger on 6 months plus salary + possible loan/transfer fee just to cover some lads that are out of action for a couple of week tops.
This, and the other transfer window, having seen us bring in 20+ players that have performed better than anyone could have ever imagined, will not have the shine taken off them because we haven’t managed to secure another midfielder.
We have gone from famine to feast and I fear some of you have been spoilt.

Mentioned the other day that I’d Benson’s injury wasn’t good. At that time heard that Elanga was wanted. Perhaps Churlinov needs a loan to get going, long term planning seems to be an active process undertaken by Pace and Kompany.

Re: January transfer window rumours.
I was wondering this morning, because we have bought a lot of players, and should promotion be confirmed, we will need a new batch of players, if the policy is to buy 2 or 3 for every position, find out who is the best and keep them. Sell the 1 or 2 that aren't quite there, and replace with known/hoped for better. I can't imagine us starting next season, with this seasons squad, so somebody has to go.PremierLeagueClass wrote: ↑Tue Jan 31, 2023 10:05 amIt makes you wonder with all the players we’ve brought in, what business we would as to actually look to do in the summer. He does what VK wants, and VK likes him. If you listened to Corberan you would understand why he is essential to the way the whole team plays.
You need to stop focusing on his so called shortcomings, they are there, and VK knows they are there, but he isn't bothered, and neither should we be.
Muric is growing all the time, and I like him more and more, give it a year and he will be a fans favourite, even though the occasional clanger is inevitable.

Belgian U18 international at Anderlecht - doesn't look like he's made his first team debut but has 17 games/4 goals/1 assist in the 'Challenger Pro League' for their youth team called RSCA Futures (I think that's the second tier in Belgium?).
Clearly someone that Kompany must have seen a lot of potential in when he was there.
