Reads well to me. Looks like they know what they are asking for which isn't always true in this field.

I know the Chief Digital Officer at Werder Bremen - I wrote an article with him last year. Note his title.... WB do not have a CTO/CIO/IT Director, it all folds under him

Re: Director of Technology
I remember watching something that claimed that Arsenal were more a technology/digitial business that had a football team rather than Arsenal being a football club first and foremost.
Its fascinating stuff and good to see as it shows the thinking of the owners being one that shows they are trying to grow the club in the right ways.

Re: Director of Technology
That’ll be a retained assignment with an agency surely. No Director of Technology is filling that application form out and not being allowed to submit a cv instead. And that’s speaking from 9 years in Tech recruitment.

Absolutely. It's extremely dated by modern standards, not easy to use at all.

Mark Thompson has tagged the Man City CTO in the job ad on LinkedIn, that’ll open it up a bit network-wise.

Attach CV and also fill out the online application form with the information from the CV.

Depends if direct or via agency. Agencies 99% of the time will just send the cv with a brief overview of why they’re submitting the candidate.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 01, 2023 9:28 pmMost job applications ask for both these days don't they?

Its connected devices - I have linked more information but first time i had heard about it was when they were talking about your fridge being connected to the internet and being able to use sensors to know you were running low on things and being able to add it to your shopping list, or even buying it for you so you didn't need to.

Cheers for that. Never heard the term before...certainly an odd one. Also, required matchdays, so Sat/Sun/Evenings.
Difficult to do your 'specific hours'.

A director will not be expected to "clock watch" and stick religiously to those hours... The hours in the ad are just a formality. In my experience most directors work 50+ hours a week and are compensated accordingly. Nor are they paid by the hour.

Initial filter for suitable candidates is miles easier and quicker using application forms you've designed. You know exactly where to look for the information you want.Milltown1882 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 01, 2023 10:51 pmIt’s ridiculous because most of the time all the info they ask for is on your cv.

Re: Director of Technology
Looks like a considered, but very broad, spec. Wonder who was doing all of this previously. The main question of course will be whether they are willing to pay enough to get someone who ticks all those boxes.

Whatever happened to the unions!
Re: Director of Technology
From a high level point of view it is many "gadgets"/tools that can interact with the internet through many sources, digital, LoRWA, etc. These would be things like tracking gadgets for Bikes/Scooters, dogs, baggage tags (can be utilized on the whole supply chain side) even mouse & rat traps that provide a signal when activated, air monitoring (CO2 for example) water flows, power usage, there are literally thousands of these things.
Hope it helps and it is the 30,000 foot view! Of course you need something to be able to know what's happening and provide alarms, etc.

Re: Director of Technology
Spot on! I remember becoming a director of a North West-based entity. It was my first such appointment. Shortly after I had a vacation that had been booked prior to taking the role. I didn’t take my phone. When I returned I was well and truly hauled over the coals by the COO for not being available. It was at that point that in such a position (and I don’t mean a Director in a corporate setting - there, it would be VP, and SVPs) you do the job, you’re never off it, and you take time-off at will, subject to complying with never being off the jobMancunianClaret wrote: ↑Thu Feb 02, 2023 6:41 amA director will not be expected to "clock watch" and stick religiously to those hours... Re: Director of Technology
Sounds like they are after an architect, throwing the latest IT buzzwords around, and 'pumping it up' and calling it a directorship. Bit like the abbreviation VP is used now. The acid question is ' is this a seat on the board'? Very likely not or it would have been mentioned. A board director has a lot of other responsibilities apart from their specialist subject such as helping to make decisions around Strategy, Finance and Governance. ( which is why you take your phone with you on holidays, work through lunches and be available 24/7).

Re: Director of Technology
Reads like a CIO role, and if so, you'd expect to have a seat at the boardroom table. I don't think you'd be able to effect the right amount of change without it. The pumping of IT buzzwords would suggest to me that there is no current plan for technology for the club and I guess that'd be the first job of the successful applicant. Create a technology roadmap, aligned to what the club wants to achieve. Hopefully that will include getting close to the 'customers' and understanding what they want to consume (as in re-vamping the ticketing process). I did joke to the wife that I'd apply, but she's not keen to move to the UK!lakesider wrote: ↑Wed Feb 08, 2023 6:55 pmSounds like they are after an architect, throwing the latest IT buzzwords around, and 'pumping it up' and calling it a directorship. And the simplest explanation of IoT is anything which can connect to a network or the internet but doesn't have compute power (in the way a PC, laptop of phone does). For example newer fridges and washing machines are the some of the more obvious answers (where they connect to your home network and you can control via your phone), but there's a massive opportunity to be used for a whole bunch of things - for instance, soil sensors which record the soil moisture and inform a system when watering needs to be applied to conserve water, but much closer to home - the devices worn by the players in the modern age (which look like sports bras) could be considered an IoT device (assuming they're network connected and feeding live data).

Re: Director of Technology
IoT has developed beyond its more narrowly defined self. Sports stadiums are a great example of this because the data derived from all the devices others have already defined are actually processed/computed in situ or “at the edge” another term to wrap your head around if you’re just discovering IoT. So now, not only is player performance being analyzed in real time (and I don’t know if we do that or do it later), but the fan experience can be maximized….
Real examples of that would be wayfinder technologies that would help you find a shorter line for you half time pie and pint, or a location service for a server to bring your pie and pint to you in your seat rather than you having to go to the concourse. None of the above even re,otely starts to unravel the data that can be collected on fans and behaviors/preferences - this is a whole new thread

Re: Director of Technology
How has the Director of Fan Experience built productive relationships with the fans? I am not saying they have not, but is this person pro-active in the canvassing of fan (ie customer) feedback and problem resolution (tickets etc)?
Surely this person should be high profile among the fans?
