Spurs v City
Spurs v City
Watching the opening minutes of Spuds v City ...
Is anyone else find it very familiar watching the way City play*, to the way Burnley play
I wonder why that is

Maybe not with errors like that ... Kane pounces and scores

Is that hitting the ball into the ground that Kane just did a deliberate thing?

Kane finally passes Jimmy's record, 200 PL goals as well, rare for a Spurs goal to be cheered by Arsenal fans but that one will be.

Are Tottenham actually taking part in this game ?
1-0 in front and hardly had a kick.

Definitely. And lost that electric wing play from the likes of Sane/Sterling.Taffy on the wing wrote: ↑Sun Feb 05, 2023 4:58 pmCity seem a bit slower than they used to be.

Different side without De Bruyne - they have a huge hole to fill when he hangs it up

I think there’s a valid argument that City are a weaker team with Haaland in it.

Who said it was a case of Jesus or Haaland? Although, Jesus is playing for a team at the top of the PL who have improved since signing him, and Haaland is playing for a team who are trying to chase them down and who have got worse since signing him.Royboyclaret wrote: ↑Sun Feb 05, 2023 5:31 pmIs that a serious observation ?
Jesus or Haaland ?....now let's think.
Would you say that City are a better side now than they were last season?

Re: Spurs v City
If city are not going to use Haslands movement off the ball they might as well take him off.
Re: Spurs v City
I'm sure the owner's cousin's half-brother's uncle who owns a company you've never heard and makes barely any profit of will find a couple of hundred million to sponsor the changing rooms for 4 years, allowing City to fill that gap without breaking FFP.CoolClaret wrote: ↑Sun Feb 05, 2023 5:00 pmDifferent side without De Bruyne - they have a huge hole to fill when he hangs it up

It’s a bit like when Ronaldo signed for United. I always said they were a worse team with him and they wouldn’t be better off with him, but then it was ‘yeah but look how many goals he’s scored’. Not only him leaving part of the revival but they look way better now.

Re: Spurs v City
Yeah definite similarities, although I guess there was also the ‘bad apple’ element to Ronaldo, and the fact that his career was on the wane.RVclaret wrote: ↑Sun Feb 05, 2023 5:46 pmIt’s a bit like when Ronaldo signed for United. City seemed to share the goals around a lot more and were more potent even with a false nine.
Certainly wouldn’t rule them out of this game yet though, particularly now KDB is on the pitch.
Re: Spurs v City
Trouble in the camp at City? I can imagine Pep is the type of personality who'd start to grate on you after a few years. Very intense and constantly in your face.

Re: Spurs v City
We had a similar issue when we had Austin.
We did better without him than with, it's almost like we just over relied on Austin when he was playing to score the goals, it feels like City are the same.

Don’t want to criticise Haaland as he’s a fantastic player, and not really being used to the best of his strengths. But Kane has offered ten times more to this game.

Whatever the reason, City are playing nothing like they were doing last year.
Re: Spurs v City
Kane definitely more able.
Re: Spurs v City
We don't want Pep to lose control at City and be replaced because we know who's name would be top of the list

Have Arsenal really improved since Jesus joined them ?......Not for me.Rileybobs wrote: ↑Sun Feb 05, 2023 5:36 pmWho said it was a case of Jesus or Haaland? Similar to Grealish at City, no positive contribution. Looks first and foremost for a foul each time he receives the ball. Needs to be replaced if City are to have a say in the final destination of the title.
Re: Spurs v City
Is Pep getting too arrogant? I think, when playing Spurs, De Bruyne would be the first name on the team sheet.
Re: Spurs v City
What a weekend for Man Utd. City and Arsenal lose and Newcastle only draw

Hasn't Guardiola said that winning the Champions league is his priority?

Re: Spurs v City
Well it’s fairly obvious that Arsenal have improved since Jesus signed, quite significantly as the league table will demonstrate. That’s clearly not down to one player in the same way that Man City’s regression can’t be pinned on one player. But Jesus suits the way that Arsenal play, whereas Haaland clearly doesn’t suit the way Ciry play. I’m not sure I saw him even touch the ball in the second half whereas Kane was instrumental for Spurs.Royboyclaret wrote: ↑Sun Feb 05, 2023 6:33 pmHave Arsenal really improved since Jesus joined them ?......Not for me.

So to go back to my original point, there is definitely a valid argument to be had that Man City are a weaker team with Haaland in it.

So what is Haalands goals/game ratio since he came into the side ?......Does that not determine whether City are a stronger team with him in the side ?Rileybobs wrote: ↑Sun Feb 05, 2023 6:43 pmWell it’s fairly obvious that Arsenal have improved since Jesus signed, quite significantly as the league table will demonstrate. Re: Spurs v City
I thought today Grealish and Bernardo were given too much of the ball by City making them look a little ponderous, especially in the first half. Mahrez has been in scintillating form of late but was only given 2 proper touches by his team mates in the first half and hit the bar with the second. Sometimes I can't get my head around Guadiola's thinking and team selection.

Haaland doesn't suit the way city play he's been banging them for fun, odd games he blanks & now the sudden conclusions been reach that he unsuitable, somebody's been on the strong shandy's early doors, Kane might have a odd off game it doesn't mean he's not suited it just means he's not 100% consistent, no footballer is Pele wasn't.Rileybobs wrote: ↑Sun Feb 05, 2023 6:43 pmWell it’s fairly obvious that Arsenal have improved since Jesus signed, quite significantly as the league table will demonstrate. I would suggest that Haaland’s goals/game ratio determines his own personal form rather than whether City are a stronger team with him in it.Royboyclaret wrote: ↑Sun Feb 05, 2023 6:50 pmSo what is Haalands goals/game ratio since he came into the side ?......Does that not determine whether City are a stronger team with him in the side ?

Re: Spurs v City
I’m not making a case that City are weaker with Haaland in the side because he blanked today - I’m suggesting it may be the case due to the fact that City don’t seem as good a team with him in it - their results could be used as evidence to back this point up.Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Sun Feb 05, 2023 6:55 pmHaaland doesn't suit the way city play he's been banging them for fun, odd games he blanks & now the sudden conclusions been reach that he unsuitable, somebody's been on the strong shandy's early doors, Kane might have a odd off game it doesn't mean he's not suited it just means he's not 100% consistent, no footballer is Pele wasn't.

Re: Spurs v City
City gone so far backwards this season.
Are all of Stones Dias and Laporte injured? Because Walker and Akanji are not at there level. I can’t believe he let Cancelo out on loan to play Ake down the left side, madness. De Bruyne looked like he was done at the highest level during the World Cup and he's done nothing to change my mind, can still play a beautiful pass but legs are gone.
Still I hate dynasties in football so I won’t cry if this one and the short Liverpool one are over.
