Feather cut, that's luxury.
We used to have a rusty razor dragged over our head.
Rusty razor, you were lucky, broken glass were best we could do....

It just jumped into my head when I read your post.
I remember that sketch, was it the fast show or similar?

There was always a bloke in the street with his car jacked up fixing something himself cause he didn't want to pay the garage to do it.

Short back and sides or a feather cut.
The Turkish lads taking an hour to cut your hair these days is a world away from the minute and half quick Mick dealt with you.

It was pre Monty Python, because Marty Feldman and Tim Brooke Taylor were in the sketch, but I can't remember which show.

No but I remember those from Pontins holidays at Southport and Prestatyn...very posh as they were colour....though thinking about it we did have one of those when we lived in Leek before moving up here in 78....and also using candles during the power cuts in the 70's when they were striking

It was sixpence for us, Rumbleows was the local. I remember having to sprint to the local shop for change if we were watching something and the tanner ran out.

Think there was a tv shop now you mention it on the corner of Briercliffe- Melville, I think so. Not sure though.

Mavis's would be across from the shopping centre as it is now.

Making a snow/ice slide on the pavement. Groups of kids would come together as a team and rub the snow with their shiny soled shoes to make the best slide ever.

Then getting told off by the adults because apparently it was lethal

Oh, yes, the metal nit comb treatment. Our mum used to crack us around the head if we screamed out while she was using it. I reckon the one she used was a relic from the inquisitor's tool kit.

Life was much harder in the 60’s and 70’s but we failed the young generation when we allowed the government to set up university fees.

Respect .. whether it be for your elders or anyone and any age on the street .. it’s what was expected and given. Times have changed with little to no consequence, and not for the better in my opinion.
Whether it be due to the anonymity of websites or whether a lack of harsher physical punishments and human rights is up for debate.
However the world we live in would be a better place if we all just respected each other . It’s not too much to ask.

The orange colour of the river Calder and getting a talking to from my parents after wading in it and coming home with orange shins! I'm sure that the stiff brush they used to get the colour off was more of a punishment than a solution!

The smell of the 'skinyard' on Plumbe Street.

Proper Coltsfoot rock from the chemist.

Marching bands on religious festival days.

Spangles.

Shove halfpenny anyone?
Used to play it on the stonewall in the old BGS and later on desks at BGS
In sixth form the late ChrisBuckland who went on tobea journalist did a weekly newspaper and one headline was ……….. hangs up his shover
I recall most of those memories
Any hair cut as longasit was short back and sides
Sometimes the bread fell in the fire
Doing Xmas post in6th form
Didn’t celebrate Halloween in my day
Knock and run
Shop chase
Tin inthe ring

As we knock the NHS no one survived leukaemia know of three school friends who died
Mum always looked at the back page of the Burnley Express and then telling Dad who had died that they knew
Being told off by police for playing footie in the streets
Anyone recall back rats playing marbles with a large cylindrical metal bearing to remove marbles I a circle against a wall

Being told to get away from the coal fire to allow mum to dry the washing
