Re: 6 Nations 2023
Worst ever english performance i have ever seen. Against a very very good France and probably one of the favourites for the World Cup. Never seen england second best in every rugby dept

France blew England away, and Borthwick will now know just what a task he faces to turn this England side into any kind of international force.

Re: 6 Nations 2023
Abject/ hopeless. France are good but, blimey, there was hardly anything positive for England to take from that.
At least I had a few bob on Wales to win by 11-15 points and the Clarets won + I'm off to my first gig of the year shortly so not all bad today.

Worst ever home defeat in the 4,5 or 6 nations, wasn't it?
We were shocking!

Re: 6 Nations 2023
Well that went well .... Wales turned the Italians over, England had no lack of effort but France were just superb !!Clarets4me wrote: ↑Fri Mar 10, 2023 6:22 pmI concur with your Italy v Wales thoughts, although perhaps a closer result ... England are rarely poor enough at Twickenham to lose by 16 points, their pack will always keep them in the match so France may edge a close game. Ireland should win in Edinburgh, by 5-10 points ....
All the above dependent on all teams keeping free of Red cards ...

Bump.
Scotland-Ireland will air on BBC1, KO 3PM in the battle to claim the Triple Crown, and Ireland in particular will still sense they can clinch the title.
Both sides love to play attacking rugby so it should be a cracker.

Ireland on the verge of another victory leading 22-7 in the closing stages.
Re: 6 Nations 2023
Very good match. Scotland have been very good this season and Triple Crown at stake. Ireland showed just how relentless they are!

Re: 6 Nations 2023
Scotland played well for 50 minutes, but Ireland stepped on the gas 2nd half.
Scotland can take credit for denying Ireland a BP win.
Compared to how shambolic England were yesterday this was a terrific game.
Ireland showing why they are ranked number one, and if they take this form into the World Cup they'll be a hard act to stop.

Re: 6 Nations 2023
Unhappy about two decisions but not doubting the refs knowledge.
Early Ireland try ruled out because Scotland took a quick lineout with the wrong ball. Surely advantage Ireland.
When the game was stopped for the Ireland concussion Scotland player had the ball with no green jerseys near him. Game re-started with a Scotland scrum, 20yds out. Ireland could have won against the head. Ball should have been handed to Scotland with Irish 10yds back.
Super game until HT then Irish dominance. They are so strong and fit.

It's almost as if the fixture list is fixed, isn't it:-
First fixture v one of the two sides that isn't Italy that are weakest.
Second fixture v Italy or the other one of the two above.
Third fixture v the third of those listed above
Fourth v one of the good teams on Saturday. The other good team plays on Sunday.
Last v the other good team, playing last in case a specific result might be required.
I was told that I was a conspiracy theorist to whinge that the above was 90% likely to be englands fixture list. Then we found out the fixtures.

Re: 6 Nations 2023
6 nations fixtures are on a rotation. So yeah, don't need a conspiracy theorist to work out when a particular game will happen
England Vs Ireland has been on Paddies day weekend (either home or away) plenty of times, Grand Slam game. Think it was 2019 when they beat us when we were on for it, we'll do well to get anywhere near them next weekend.
Losing by 20 will be an achievement

Re: 6 Nations 2023
So i got the Wales game wrong , but goodness France ripped the English a new one .
So upset with ref the first try not given and no yellow card for Hogg when the Irish were on the line , look it all turned out well in the end but it was a hard 40 mins and talk about players taken hits and coming off .
Next week no matter who the English put out they will be beaten as it's going to be some weekend in Ireland and only a 4 day week as well .

Re: 6 Nations 2023
I ended up having bets on each away side to win by 11-15 points so did OK there with both Wales and Ireland doing that (7/1 and 19/4 respectively). I was way out on the England game though unfortunately; France were very good and England very poor- the score reflecting the difference accurately.Tribesmen wrote: ↑Mon Mar 13, 2023 12:39 pmSo i got the Wales game wrong , but goodness France ripped the English a new one .

Ireland's performance is not to be underestimated, Scotland have a good squad this year and generally played well. Ireland overcame not only that but a lot of injuries:
Lost their 8 with injury after 12 mins.
Lost their hooker after 18 minutes then his replacement after 48 minutes and had to bring a prop on to play hooker and a flanker to throw to the line-out.
Centre Aki, having been subbed by Henshaw after 66 minutes had to reenter the fray soon after with Ringrose getting injured (hopefully he's Ok after that nasty head/neck injury).

Re: 6 Nations 2023
So with a few days to go better put up what i think for the last round of games as i think i will be somewhat missing on Friday .
Right then , first up Scotland v Italy , the Scot fell short again last weekend but Italy didn't do much better so i think it will be an open game with loads of tries with Scotland coming out 35 - 21 winners on the day .
France v Wales , well no wooden spoon for Wales which is all they can say in what has been a very poor Six Nations for them . Now France can still the Six Nations so i expect them to go all out so with that i will predict 42- 8 to France .
And last up on the day in Dublin which will be in party mood and most drunk i would say . Look there will be only one winner as Slam chasing Ireland will go big and rip into England from the off . Ireland have lived up to the tags as the best in the World at the moment and England never got going and look out of sorts again loads of tries in this one with Ireland winning 38 -14 .
It's a great weekend to be Irish that's for sure .

Re: 6 Nations 2023
My quick predictions.
Scotland-Italy Scotland by 10-12 points to round off a decent campaign for them.
France-Wales France by 15-20 points.
Ireland-England Ireland to deservedly gain the title and slam by 10-12 points, I think England will make life tougher than many imagine, as they'll want to show that France debacle was a one-off, however in Dublin and with so much on the line Ireland will prevail.

Scotland by 10-15 points over Italy at Murrayfield, France by 20-25 points over Wales in Paris, Ireland by 10-15 in Dublin .... I agree with " tiger76 ", England will put in a much better showing, their pride demands it ...

Re: 6 Nations 2023
France have had no ball and yet get into the 22 and it's a Try 18 -7 .
This is it when you get chances a good team takes them same as the Scotland game as Italy camped on the line but could not score , oohhh make that 20-7

Re: 6 Nations 2023
France will almost certainly go on to claim a BP win here, making Ireland's task as difficult as possible later.
And there's a clear gulf between the top 2 and the rest.

Re: 6 Nations 2023
Congratulations to Ireland on their Grand Slam, and their first one won in Dublin.
They fully justified their number rating, and will hope to continue this form into the World Cup.
Bizarrely despite that defeat England can take a lot of heart over the vast improvement from the France game, and even with 14 men they made Ireland fight all the way.

Re: 6 Nations 2023
He'd stopped playing after the clear forward pass, and just braced himself. The Irish player's head was lowered going into the tackle, it was clearly an accident. I wouldn't blame Hugo Keenan, he was playing to the whistle, which came a fraction before the impact. Marius Jonker was the TMO and both him and Peyper have " history " with England ... couldn't wait to issue the Red !! The Yellow card that followed was also extremely dubious, several similar incidents in this same Tournament have gone without incident or only a penalty being awarded.Tricky Trevor wrote: ↑Sun Mar 19, 2023 7:23 pmNot at all. Many congratulations to Ireland, who would probably have won anyway ... but the game was ruined by the Officials !!

Give the guy a yellow but then TMOs have that 10mins to continue the review, away from the passion of the moment, and upgrade to red if thought the correct punishment.
I like that.

Re: 6 Nations 2023
Wouldn't disagree with that, or an Orange card, fifteen minutes off, rather than 10 minutes .... It just goes against the grain that Steward's offense is punishable by the same sanction as a stamp to the head or a " clothes line " tackle ...
Re: 6 Nations 2023
Difficult for the affected team to play around tho isn't it? And probably not all that practical in reality. A longer penalty than tens mins with the inability for the player doing the offending to come back on to the pitch a better option. But reds in rugby really to ruin games.Tricky Trevor wrote: ↑Mon Mar 20, 2023 8:36 amJust watched the BBC highlights and a good point was made and sounded like it was under consideration.

Re: 6 Nations 2023
Not sure where you are coming from. It is deemed that the offence is a minimum of a yellow so he sits out that 10 whilst they determine if it is worth upgrading to red.Papabendi wrote: ↑Mon Mar 20, 2023 11:35 pmDifficult for the affected team to play around tho isn't it? Totally agree that the match is ruined by a red, as proved by the last 15 mins on Saturday when Ireland scored 3 tries.
Re: 6 Nations 2023
If you think it is acceptable in elite-level sport for the team facing the decision to be unsure of whether they are facing a man down for ten mins or potentially a lot longer and therefore unsure of their own tactics on the pitch, that is of course your point of view to maintain. My position is it impractical and undesirable.
And the question is for what? So a team of analysts can keep reviewing the same slo-mo footage (in this instance as it happens, the wrong footage to look at) and potentially come to the wrong decision anyway? Or conversely, what if that review team decides, after poring over the detail, the foul didn't merit a yellow never mind a red. That could have been the conclusion on Saturday. A bit sticky then?
I see the red card has now been rescinded. What a pity it ruined what was set up to be a good game.
