I stroll on and watch St George’s in Douglas……….there’s a small group of old blokes who just stand behind the goal taking the p out of the opposition keeper ……….

I go on Colne FC,not bad standard of footy, also when players go down, theyre injured,no rolling around for the fun of it. As an aside, better catering choices on offer up Holt House than the Turf

I think there’s loads go on non-league when not at the Turf. Penistone Church for me, really enjoy it. Got into it during Covid when they were allowed to play on and go quite a bit now.

A lot easier to cater for one man and his dog, than 20,000ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sun May 28, 2023 3:33 pmSame with a lot of the local non-league clubs in the area which is frankly embarrassing. We might well see an improvement next season with the new company in charge.

Re: Watching non league football
I wouldn't argue with that, but the discussion was about the non league grounds, with probably one kiosk, the ability to buy small amounts from local producers etc. The two shouldn't really be comparedClaretTony wrote: ↑Sun May 28, 2023 3:45 pmIt is undoubtedly and you can’t beat the home made hot pot at Barlick. But you go to other Championship grounds and they blow us out of the water with what they have to offer.
Re: Watching non league football
Between 200-300. Even during lockdown when people couldn't go on the Turf and Colne were doing well they couldn't get more than 300 on.Im_not_Robbie_Blake wrote: ↑Sun May 28, 2023 3:41 pmHow many are in an average crowd there these days?

Done some decent work off the pitch but their budget is minuscule compared to most at that level. So many professional teams. They’ll probably only have a mid-range budget in the division below next season.whentheballmoves wrote: ↑Sun May 28, 2023 8:21 pmWent on boxing Day this year. Good set up. Shame they've gone down.

It’s a great little club isn’t it? Churned out some top players too.
Re: Watching non league football
This season just finished I’ve been watching Lancaster City in the Northern Premier when their matches didn’t clash with Burnley’s. Only because my son signed for them last summer, but it’s enjoyable and very friendly, no animosity between rival supporters. I’d thoroughly recommend it and all teams at that level are trying to encourage more people through the turnstiles
And their assistant manager is Graham Lancashire, so of course I’ve mentioned to him I was there when he scored 4 at Wrexham 30 years ago. He smiled and said he’s been dining out on that for years. Pleasure chatting to him.

Me and my mates from Uni meet up to take in a game and have pre and post match beers every couple of months. It’s much more fun than just having a night out. This season we have been to see St Neots, Royston Town, Stamford Daniels and Cambridge City.

A club close to my heart is Lancaster City. It’s a long time since I was at a game there though.JLaw wrote: ↑Sun May 28, 2023 9:54 pmThis season just finished I’ve been watching Lancaster City in the Northern Premier when their matches didn’t clash with Burnley’s. Tony
Don’t think I’ve ever asked you why you got involved at the giant axe. Were you working in Lancaster. Dolly Blues still think they are bigger than Morecambe!

Re: Watching non league football
It was because of work although in Preston. Their manager at the time was Keith Dyson the former Newcastle & Blackpool striker. He worked for me and asked me if I was interested in getting involved and I became a director of the club but only for a year. They played a lot of Monday night games too so I was able to see a good number.
They were in the same league then as Morecambe and better too. Always a Dolly Blue.
