Who would they play him instead of? The left back they paid £45m for or the one they bought for £60m?

We have to be sensible and not be paying over the odds personally i wouldn't go more than 10 million as he hasn't played in the Premier league and is defending wasn't great but improved as season went on , but Vincent isn't silly and won't bet the ranch but i hope he as alternatives because we need players in soon to get up to speed.

I think there is clearly a deal there for both players I wonder if we are just haggling over the structure of the deal rather than the final fee maybe we need to up the initial payments and guaranteed add ons! neither are worth 20 million though.

This was always going to be the problem with Beyer, Maatsen and Tella, if we wanted to sign them permanently we'd be spending £40million plus, just to stand still.

Much rather get mikatuadze (sp?) and Gomez for a combined less fee

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Firstly, I’m really shocked by the kitty Kompany SEEMS to have, worth saying that before pure speculation…
I must be in the minority, but if we can sign Tella and Maatsen for a combined total fee in the region of £35m I’d be delighted (I.e, £17.5m a piece).
I have no idea how much we have to spend in the slightest, but we appear to have a sizeable budget on the basis of alleged bids made and interest being shown (and that’s before potential sales, I.e, possibly Weghorst, Taylor, Bastien, McNally etc?).
On the balance of probabilities, based on track record of sources involved and our historical interest in the player - you’d suspect our top targets seem to be:
CB - Beyer (signed)
LB - Maatsen
CM - Lokonga
AM - Tresor
RW/ST - Tella
Hypothetically, if we were to spend £55m on Maatsen, Tresor and Tella (massively incentivised as well) and loan Lokonga with an option to buy, I’d be delighted. I’d still say we were after another striker following that as a certainty (Mikautadze or Gyokeres one would assume), but again, without knowing the budget who is to say.

We need 6 signings as a minimum. And I think we'll get them.

Agree with that Jedi although I honestly think in addition to that, we will sign a CB and a new GK.

Yeah I imagine another CB is likely - every chance it could be Harwood-Bellis on a loan to spend the dough elsewhere possibly? I think with the success of our loans last season I can definitely see another 3-4 coming in (I think we’re allowed two from PL clubs, possibly Lokonga and THB).gandhisflipflop wrote: ↑Tue Jun 06, 2023 2:28 pmAgree with that Jedi although I honestly think in addition to that, we will sign a CB and a new GK.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
There’s quite a bit of Football Manager logic goes into the discussions around players, fees and budgets on here.
Firstly people tend to accept any fee/value cited by the media as gospel. Secondly they seem to take no account of the value of our current manager’s opinion of the player. Finally the cheaper alternatives they suggest are often players they’ve barely seen with their own eyes and (if they have) take little account of where they’ve been playing their football or their suitability to how we play.
If VK thinks Ian Maatsen or Nathan Tella are worth the minimum Chelsea and Southampton want for them, then in my view he’s earned the right to he trusted so long as those sums are within the limits of our budget.

This lad is another wonderkid. I honestly don't think I have ever been as excited for a transfer window as I have for this one, we've been linked with the kind of players I never thought I'd see at Burnley.

That wouldn’t necessarily be a problem as these are young and would retain their value if relegated, deals could be structured in various ways to make that affordable within our cash flow parameters, including loans with an option to buy or loans with a mandatory buy.
The real issue is risk and assessment of it. Obviously we have a very different club now in that sense compared to previous owners.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
The last line or so are crucial there though AG. Intriguing and quite exciting though the links at the beginning of this window are, the level of ambition involved is also a bit unsettling. Whilst Ive generally taken the view that we should bit braver when it comes to transfer fees as you are buying assets, even that is a principle which has to meet with the realities of the risk the club can sustain. And more caution is needed with wages. Its only paper talk but some of the names/transfer fees (which tend to correlate to wages) are a little wild. I'm hoping that in trying to accommodate VK's ambitions, we don't go too far. Three clubs still have to go down.agreenwood wrote: ↑Tue Jun 06, 2023 3:50 pmThere’s quite a bit of Football Manager logic goes into the discussions around players, fees and budgets on here.

The thing is with these headlines is that half the clubs in Europe are probably 'monitoring' his situation. I'm monitoring his situation. Doesn't mean I'm going to sign him.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Tue Jun 06, 2023 2:34 pmaccording to @Ekremkonur both Brighton and Newcastle are 'monitoring' Trésor

Blimey all these £millions and £millions plus 40k to 60 k a week wages....keep grounded.
Spend tight on good upcoming players and don't break the bank!
As Dave Thomas says .. We're Burnley not Barcelona.

Need to be aware of payment terms and the accounting side of all this.
Maatsen at £20m if spread over a decent contract and with a portion of it based on surviving / plays for country / plays in Europe and it’s a no brainer.
If he has 1 good PL season he’s immediately worth £30/40m when you consider what we sold the likes of McNeil / Collins for.
We aren’t buying depreciating assets anymore

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Deals to bring players in will be structured in instalments along side add ons, such as surviving in the PL, so if we do sign the likes of Tella or Maatsen for 20m, the actual cash out of the bank initially will be quite small, staying up will be key. If we did go down (unlikely if you ask me) but if we did we'd easily move these players on for decent fees, due to age and potential.
People saying Maatsen can leave for free at end of his contract, I think due to his age Chelsea would be due compo as we did with Ings move to Liverpool (stand to be corrected though)

Why is nobody else signing the magical mythical players where you put almost no money down and they all appreciate in value?
