Re: January transfer window rumours.
I wouldn’t sell Twine for £2.5m. A good run of form and he’ll be linked with Prem moves. He’s young and just getting to grips with that level. Wouldn’t shock me to really see him flourish after Christmas.
Same with McNally. Saw a post on the Stoke message board that “if his passing were as good as the other aspects of his game, he'd be attracting Prem interest for a similar fee to Soutar”.
Obviously some areas to work on but feel both those two will come good at some point if well looked after. And maybe with us next year given our current position.
Really think we should always have 3-4 players out on loan to the Champ getting good experience because that’s the minimum number you’ll inevitably lose when getting relegated. Great management of the squad if we can get to that point.

Agreed - makes total sense. Even if they’re not going to be first team starters you’ll need players that can come in or come off the bench.

I noticed Maitland Niles is getting very little playing time at Lyon. And when he does start (3 times) it’s in CM.
Not a rumor, but thoughts?

This is an interesting one though I guess you have to wonder why it hasn’t happened at multiple clubs now.CharlieinNewMexico wrote: ↑Mon Dec 25, 2023 11:23 pmI noticed Maitland Niles is getting very little playing time at Lyon. And when he does start (3 times) it’s in CM.

Reguilon has had his loan an Man U ended. Could we sign him on loan? Apparently was offered to us in Summer. Or was he registered with Spurs before the summer loan?

Al-dakhil is a talent but needs a full season in championship to only play an handful of games at back end of last season and to then start first 10 or so games in prem was a massive ask for himsummitclaret wrote: ↑Tue Jan 02, 2024 3:25 pmhttps://sportwitness.co.uk/burnley-man- ... impending/

Re: January transfer window rumours.
If Regulion hasn't made any Spurs appearances this season then he could go out on loan again - if he's played for Spurs and Utd already this season then he becomes ineligible for anyone else - two club rule. Hence why anyone suggesting we should be / are in for Tella in Jan is wide of the mark as he's appeared for 2x clubs already this seasonRoosterbooster wrote: ↑Tue Jan 02, 2024 2:46 pmReguilon has had his loan an Man U ended. Both he and Reiss Nelson could be available for loans but think there's likely to be interest from other London and southern clubs which could well rule us out
They don't seem to fancy the frozen north as Lokonga was happy to go to Luton over us

Re: January transfer window rumours.
Wouldn't entertain letting Twine go, for me I'd have kept him in the squad for this year and either not flooded the squad with so many attacking midfielders, or loaned one of them out. Ramsey looks way off the pace for example and is young. Twine's biggest struggle was injuries last season, I thought he looked handy and useful every time he played, he's not got the pace for an out wide role in the 4231 we played but in the central role behind the striker he had fantastic technique & touch, 360 movement with the ball at his feet, and brilliant deadball ability. Ward Prowse is proof that deadball ability alone can elevate you to important player even in the Prem, and our set pieces are shocking. Think he's got a lot of talent but needs a settled run in his best position with good players alongside him and for us to be playing the system we did last year.
Certainly would balk at selling him for less than we paid. Think that could be a real Marc Pugh scenario where he blooms around 28 or so and we kick ourselves- but then I think that at letting Benson go so what do I know.
Al Dakhil getting loaned out makes sense. As does Zaroury on paper, even if personally I'd prioritise loaning out Ramsey (Or honestly, Tresor if we could, he's way way off the level needed in all areas currently and looks like he really could do with a bedding in season in the Championship to see if he can adapt to English football). Same with Churlinov who I think was unlucky with injuries, would be good to get him a Championship loan if there were guarantees of gametime, still think he could come good.
But then the other part of me thinks it's no longer about if players come good on the pitch, just if they come good on the balance sheet, so who knows.

Yeah I didn’t understand it in the summer, it was just one of those, when your top scorer in league one and have eye for a free kick, any time in championship at the time would be silly not to go for him, he would be one for starters even if we are relegated that I would try and at least break even with or a small lossNewcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 02, 2024 5:18 pmTotally agree

Re: January transfer window rumours.
He’s got some decent technical ability but I think from championship level upwards he just lacks the physicality and pace to be a success. Even in the ten role, I just can’t see any part of his game that would make him a success at the highest level.123EasyasBFC wrote: ↑Tue Jan 02, 2024 5:23 pmYeah I didn’t understand it in the summer, it was just one of those, when your top scorer in league one and have eye for a free kick, any time in championship at the time would be silly not to go for him, he would be one for starters even if we are relegated that I would try and at least break even with or a small loss

Re: January transfer window rumours.
I like Twine, got lovely technical ability, really pings a pass but he has got a bit of Bamford about him. I've not watched any of his appearances this season so don't need if he's toughened up but he's already 24 and for me if someone offered what we paid for him I'd probably move him on as we can do better - when you consider Koleosho was approx half his rumoured price..........VK will do what he thinks is bestNewcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 02, 2024 5:26 pmHe’s got some decent technical ability but I think from championship level upwards he just lacks the physicality and pace to be a success. Probably not for sale, not enough left in our Kitty, although the board might pull a rabbit out of the hat. They’ve loaned Parrot out to a Dutch club as well so probably we will have to fish elsewhere.

The Jam tarts are my 2nd team -
Can’t see us going for Shankland, seems like paper talk… or if we did that would confirm to me the club has accepted relegation.
Good finisher but some way off a PL player - may be able to bag goals in the Champ given the service.

Bit of a strange one but Graeme Bailey is suggesting a host of clubs (Burnley being one of them) are after Lawrence Shankland this window.
He’s had a pretty impressive couple of seasons at Hearts

Re: January transfer window rumours.
I hate to say that I told you so but I told you so. Back in the last summer transfer window I challenged the wisdom of having ridiculous numbers of wide players/wingers being brought in especially as they were essentially clones of one another. They weren't needed, overloaded the size of the squad and were costing us an extra wage. In addition we splashed out ridiculous sums on a GK that wasn't a priority, ridiculous sums on Ramsay who hasn't featured much. The biggest school boy errors of all though was the farce around Maatsen, a FB who wasn't great at defending and as it turned out we seemingly were going to blow huge amounts on, and where is the money projected for that now available ? It was absolutely obvious all summer long that we needed a decent LB who was an experienced and good defender, yet all summer long we dithered. Missing out on Tella was another big mistake.
Where do we go now ? Well the squad is way too bloated with a number of players never getting a chance of ever playing so we should offload a number of them either out on loan if they would likely be good enough later on, released if too slow or not good enough or if they are clones and some sold if a fee could be generated. As relegation is more likely than not although we may still get away with it with possible FFP points deductions on other clubs take place it doesn't seem sensible to spend much money on incomings though a decent LB is an absolute must. A couple of additional loans are needed right now but that is all we should do in this window. The squad lacks physicality and height and this must be addressed for next season if we stay or get back into the PL the year after.
I do believe that if we go down we will come straight back up again however the squad needs a complete reassessment for that eventuality. I would offload Delcroix, Bastien, Egan Riley, McNally, Cork, Redmond, Churlinov, Jay Rod in this window. Sadly Taylor, and JBG will have to go at the end of this season. Vitinho, Twine and Roberts would need to show improvement next season if we are in the Championship or go completely if we are still in the PL. Brownhill may need to be sold depending on the transfer budget situation I would try to keep Bruun Larsen and Tresor if we could. Massengo would need to step up and show he is good enough next season but should go out on loan if we are in the PL. I would retain the rest for next season but we would need to add some incomings in key areas to replace some of those who will have gone.

Apparently Sheff U are close to bringing in Brerton-Diaz on loan and also looking at a move for Kasper Schmeichel.
Would be 2 good signings for them (assuming either can perform to the standards they have shown previously in this country).

I see nothing in Brereton's career to suggest he'll be a Premier League striker...he had one good season at Blackburn. They'd have been better hanging on to Billy Sharp.
