Palace away - quietly optimistic...

Post by CoolClaret » Fri Feb 23, 2024 2:15 pm

We're obviously a much better side away from home this season and I have a sneaky feeling that we might upset Palace this weekend.

It's their new manager, Oliver Glasner's debut game in the dugouts for Palace; hopefully we'll spoil their day.

I imagine it will be the same team with JBG coming in for Ramsey, though VK might have a tinker up his sleeve... Any thoughts Clarets?

Has someone hacked your account?

Only joking! Good to hear a bit of positivity.

I am looking forward to the game tomorrow. Just hoping that it is a different performance and result from the last time that I was in London which was the horror show at Brentford.

0-2 Amdouni first goal

I don't bet anymore, but it keeps jumping out at me.

Can someone paint a cow’s arse on the Palace goal and lend Amdouni their banjo?

Obviously I’d be delighted for this to come back and bite me on my arse!!

I would prefer someone to put a picture of a cows arse in the Palace dug out. Then when he misses that with his banjo, hopefully he finds his way and sits down in our dugout for the duration of the football match.

Just did some digging on Palace last 3 games and they conceded 6 goals to midfielders.
Their defensive midfielder Wharton seems to always follow the ball trying to get involved. (As any young player in his first few games would).

Their new manager will want them to press high against us. A far cry from what they did on the Turf.

We could collapse or catch them out a couple of times.
Fofana to get the 2nd on the break.

I will have two! On a serious note though I don’t think he is too far off the mark. Tomorrow probably represents our best chance of getting something from a game for a while.

I remember going to Palace for Trevor Francis first game and I think we beat them 2-1. Francis came out in tiny shorts if I remember rightly. Hope history repeats itself and we nick a win.

Yep - Glasner is meant to a big proponent of relentless pressing, not necessarily deep in our half but anything around halfway and in their half.

I think it's a good game script for us - as good as we will have really.

I am genuinely very optimistic for this game but VK just has to learn.

Drop some of the deadwood that just hasn’t performed all season and add a bit more steal to side.

Palace are there to be beaten we just need to get that starting eleven right

Not expecting a result, but I just want us to at least show a bit of fight!

If we are going to get beat, let's at least make Palace come away thinking they've been in a tough game.

Far too often this season games have passed us by, and we've done very little to make the opposition get out of second gear.

Three huge misses.

Joachim Anderson is a tremendous CB like but I think we can upset these, truly believe it.

I'm sick of being optimistic right up to kick off, then giving up hope completely within the 1st 10 minutes.

I'm gonna try and be really pessimistic and expect another 5-0 drubbing, surely I can only be pleasantly surprised then...can't I??

weren't they missing 2 of them at the Turf (one came on as sub) and they still just waited for us to screw up ! Honestly, given last weeks performance they could play the under 21's and I would still have zero faith in this team this season

I’m going to break the mould here and say I think we stand no chance after watching them vs Everton and also our highlights against them from the Turf Moor game where we played okay but didn’t really create much.

Still think they’ll have enough to keep us out and nab something.

Doesn’t feel right agreeing with CoolClaret anyway ;)

I agree, palace there to be beaten, but more chance of being 6 foot deep in snow than getting the starting 11 right. Hope I'm wrong though.

He’s got to have identified by know where the issues lie.

The next four games are critical not just for our club but the remainder of his career.

I think you might be suggesting that goalkeeper is one of 'our issues'( I hold my hand up if I'm wrong). I agree with you but just don't see this happening now. With the players we have at our disposal where do you see other 'issues' being possibly remedied?

If I’m honest I’m not. I am personally of the opinion it doesn’t matter who’s in goal we have got bigger issues.

I’m specifically looking at the likes of Amdouni and Brownhill, they have been really poor for some time now and similarly I’m not sure this formation is benefitting us at all.

What did Palace do to impress you against Everton? If DCL could score, Everton would have had 4.

They will have to be on the front foot against us, can they play that way?

Same situation for them squad wise as on Monday against Everton, but their players still put a good shift in there having 10 shots (4 on target).
With their 3 best young players still on the treatment table it should be a walk in the park (Selhurst Park). :P

One can but hope even if we’re in the last chance saloon.
If we lose against Palace then virtually all hope will be extinguished. But if we win then the flame of hope will still be flickering. Until our next game that is.

Its probably a bad time to get them. Managers first game in charge at home against an under performing relegation candidate. It looks like a nailed on home win if looking at it from a neutral perspective

My prediction is this:

First 20 mins on top completely dominating the game.

After 22 minutes and 27 seconds Trafford will flap at a cross, completely miss it - the ball will then hit the post and rebound onto the back of Amdouni's head into the path of Jefferey Schlupp who will pass it into the net.

We will then dominate again until half time and we will go into HT the better side and we will all optimistically look forward to the second half.

Palace will then come out and score immediately. We will retreat into our shells until the 70th minute but will then have a resurgence and start to dominate the game.

On the 80th minute VK will take off Fofana and Amdouni and replace them with two cleaning ladies Agnes and Loretta who will narrowly miss a couple of chances.

In the post match ratings all the players will get 5 except Trafford who will get a 6 and comments like 'he was brilliant except for the goals' and Agnes who will get a 7 and MoM.

In his post match commentary, VK will say that it is the worst we will play all season and that we are progressing.

On Talk Sport Adrian Durham will call it a sh*t show and we are the worst side to ever play in the PL.

And Cool Claret will go back to his usual self.

There, you know it all now. You can all free yourself up from the misery and go and take the Mrs/Mr - Shopping!

It doesn't matter who you have in the starting line up if it's your day, it's your day.

Remember going to Leeds when we had terrible injuries and playing loads of fullbacks in midfield? We won 2-1.

If there's any chance of survival , we must get 7 or 8 points from our next 4 games ( palace, Bournemouth, west ham and Brentford) . After what we've witnessed so far this season , you'd think there's no chance of this but you never know . Hopefully he'll push Berge forward and finally leave lazy Amdouni out .

You have obviously seen the same games as me

If I’m honest I’m not. I am personally of the opinion it doesn’t matter who’s in goal we have got bigger issues.

I’m specifically looking at the likes of Amdouni and Brownhill, they have been really poor for some time now and similarly I’m not sure this formation is benefitting us at all.
Do we have a formation, I haven't really seen one, at least not consistently, however we do seem to consistently change personnel, and consequently I just don't think anybody really knows where he wants them to play anymore.

I remember going to Palace for Trevor Francis first game and I think we beat them 2-1. Francis came out in tiny shorts if I remember rightly. Hope history repeats itself and we nick a win.
I'd say there is less than zero chance of Trevor Francis appearing in tiny shorts.

Similar chance to a Burnley win?

Genuinely surprised - in a good way - that so many still harbour any hope. Hope that means I'm wrongly resigned to the drop.

That's where I get confused. If Amdouni and Brownhill are replaced who comes in for them? Does the inclusion of two different players affect the formation?
What formation do you think might be beneficial to us tomorrow? Genuine question because I'm lost currently regarding what our preparation might entail.
